Regular Action Meeting and Board Reorganization Meeting
Good News
Principal Walsh from Hinsdale Central and Principal Pokorny from Hinsdale South and shared recent good news from their respective schools.

Consent Agenda
The Board approved the consent agenda as presented. The consent agenda includes personnel, stipends, board bills, and meeting minutes. Click on the link to access the meeting agenda and then scroll down to see Consent Agenda items beginning under number 3.

Amend 2018-19 School Year Calendar for Emergency Days Used and eLearning Pilot April 9 and 10
The Board voted to amend the 2018-19 school year calendar for emergency days used and the eLearning/remote learning days on April 9 and 10.

Request for Release of Contract
The Board voted to approve Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law’s request to be released from his contract on April 30 so he can begin working at his new district. By approving the release request, Dr. Law’s compensation from District 86 will end effective April 30.

Contract Amendment for Superintendent Prentiss
Following the approval of Dr. Law’s request for early release from his contract, the Board voted to approve an amendment to appoint Tammy Prentiss Superintendent effective May 1, 2019.

Appoint Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
The Board voted to approve current Director of Student Services Brad Verthein as Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2019.

Appoint Parent Teacher Advisory Committee (PTAC) Members
Board President Bill Carpenter appointed members to the 2019-20 Parent Teacher Advisory Committee (PTAC).

Announce April 2, 2019 Referendum Results
Board President Bill Carpenter announced the officially canvassed April 2, 2019 referendum results.

April 17, 2019 Finance Committee Recommendations
The Finance Committee brought the full Board the recommendations from the April 17 meeting on reversing reductions made to the operating budget in December 2018 following the voters’ approval of the April 2 bond proposition. Those recommendations include putting back science lab managers, music parapros, accompanists and some bus routes.

Academics
eLearning Days Update
Assistant Superintendent of Academics Dr. Carol Baker provided an update on the pilot eLearning Days April 9 and 10, highlighting that attendance levels were very good and the results of the survey to parents, teachers and students will come back to the May 20 meeting.

Business
Financial and Treasury Reports March 2019
Per regular cadence, Administration provided to the Board the financial and treasury reports for March 2019.

April 24 Board Reorganization Meeting
Recognize Retiring 2017 Board Members
District 86 recognized the retiring members of the 2017 Board, Bill Carpenter, Jennifer Planson and Bo Blackburn, and thanked them for their service.

Announce April 2, 2019 Board Election Results
Board President Bill Carpenter announced the officially canvassed April 2, 2019 Board election results.

Administer Oath of Office to Newly Elected Board Members
Outgoing Board President Bill Carpenter administered the oath of office to Board members elected April 2, 2019: Kathleen Hirsman, Cynthia Hanson, Erik Held and Marty Turek.

Adjourn Sine Die
The 2017 Board adjourned sine die at 7:30 p.m.

A brief reception was held to honor of retiring 2017 Board members and to welcome 2019 Board members.

Board Officer Selection
Following the seating of new Board members, the 2019 Board voted to appoint officers as follows: Nancy Pollak as President, Kevin Camden as Vice President, and Kathleen Hirsman as Secretary. The 2019 Board will make committee appointments at the May 6 meeting.  

Treasurer and Recording Secretary Appointments
The Board voted to approve Chief Financial Officer Josh Stephenson to serve as Treasurer and Administrative Chief of Staff Deb Kedrowski to serve as Board Recording Secretary. Both currently serve in these positions.
