Excerpts from the Regular Meeting of the Cypress School District
Board of Trustees held on April 12, 2018 
School Presentation: A.E. Arnold Elementary School
Students from Arnold sang "Wells Fargo Wagon" from the Broadway musical Music Man, this year's fifth grade musical performance.

Staff Presentation: STEM Program
STEM Teachers on Special Assignment Melinda Steele and Adam Kelley presented an update on the district's STEM program and the new environmental science units students have been working with this year.
Three-Year Expulsion Plan
As required by law, the Board approved the district's Three-Year Expulsion Plan for 2018-2021. Each district's plan is integrated into the Orange County Plan for Expelled Students.
Qualtrics Research
The Board approved a subscription for the Qualtrics research platform which will enable the district to obtain and analyze stakeholder feedback in a variety of areas, most specifically the annual Local Control and Accountability Plan. The first year cost is $18,100, which includes an initial implementation fee of $2,500.
Thinking Maps Professional Developmen t
Professional development will be required to support teachers in effectively integrating Thinking Maps and Write from the Beginning instructional strategies into the district's new English language arts/English language development curriculum, Benchmark Advance. The Board approved agreements with Thinking Maps for teacher training during the 2018/19 school year at a cost of $10,800. Additional training will be provided for the district's certified Thinking Maps Trainers of Teachers at a cost of $11,250, which will allow them to provide ongoing support to teachers.
Recognition of Teachers and Classified Employees
The Board adopted resolutions designating May 9 as Day of the Teacher and May 21-25 as Classified School Employee Week to honor the district's certificated and classified employees for their dedicated service.
Request for Proposals for Distribution of Food Products               
The Board authorized publication of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for distribution and delivery services for food products purchased through a California USDA foods cooperative. The selected bidder will be submitted for Board approval at a future Board Meeting.
Playground Equipment and Surfacing at Landell
Because the play equipment at Landell has reached the end of its usable lifespan and no longer meets safety or accessibility codes, the Board authorized contracting with Dave Bang Associates for the purchase and installation of playground equipment and rubber playground surfacing at a total cost of $148,339.42. Installation is scheduled for this summer.
Extension of Consultant Agreement Related to District Property
To permit completion of current projects, an agreement with consultant Dr. Barry Blade was extended through June 30, 2018, at an additional cost of $50,000.
Facilities Use Agreement with City of Cypress
A Facilities Use Agreement with the City of Cypress was approved to allow relocation of the district's school buses from the district office property to the City Maintenance Yard.
Agenda Online Meeting Management Program
The Board approved a two-year agreement with the California School Boards Association to continue the district's Agenda Online meeting management program subscription. The agreement provides the district with access to the upgraded "premium" version at the current rate of $2,750 for year one and no cost for year two.
Williams Legislation Uniform Complaints
The Board received a report indicating the district received no complaints regarding deficiencies related to instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that might pose a threat to the health or safety of students or staff, or teacher vacancy or misassignment during the third quarter of the 2017/18 school year.
