SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
School Presentation: Steve Luther Elementary School
Mr. Keuhn and students from his fourth/fifth-grade combo class demonstrated a math strategy called “Three Read Protocol” in which students engage with a word problem by collaborating with peers before doing any calculations. 
Staff Report: School Safety
Teresa Lennox, Director of Maintenance/Operations, Transportation, and Technology, provided the Board with an update on school safety.
BOARD ACTIONS
Consent Agenda
The Board approved a number of routine consent items, including gifts and grants to the district, Human Resources transactions, purchase orders and checks, and agreement renewals. Details regarding these items can be found in the Board meeting agenda.  

TGR Learning Lab
The Board ratified an agreement for fifth and sixth-grade students to participate in TGR Learning Lab’s Day Program and Mobile Outreach Program during the 2024/25 school year at a cost not to exceed $6,000. In the Day Program, fifth-grade students learn about the career fields of forensic science, marine science, and biotechnology, and in the Mobile Outreach Program, sixth-grade students learn about computers, basic circuitry, and physical computing using Scratch and Raspberry Pi.

Disposal of District-Owned Personal Property
The following equipment was declared unusable and approved for recycling/disposal: 248 desktop monitors, 76 desktop computer towers, 11 printers, 218 Chromebooks, 149 laptops, 10 servers, 5 tablets, 21 projectors, and 1 scanner.

Districtwide LED Lighting Retrofit Project
Due to Assembly Bill 2208, which phases out the sale of fluorescent lamps, the Board approved contracting with M.P. South, Inc. for a districtwide LED lighting retrofit project at a total cost of $511,970.80. The work will be performed under the 2021 Maintenance/Construction Unit Price Bid Master Agreement previously approved by the Board.

Arnold Transitional Kindergarten Restroom Addition Project
Transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms have specific restroom requirements. The Board approved contracting with M.P. South, Inc. for the construction of a restroom for a new transitional kindergarten classroom at Arnold at a cost of $142,827.08. The work will be performed under the 2021 Maintenance/Construction Unit Price Bid Master Agreement previously approved by the Board.

Vessels Building E Roofing Replacement Project
The Board approved contracting with Chapman Coast Roof Company for replacement of the Building E roof at Vessels. The project was put out for bid, and four bids were received. Chapman was selected as the lowest responsive bid at a cost of $293,809.00.

Employment Contract for Assistant Superintendent, Business Services
The Assistant Superintendent's employment contract was amended to extend the term through June 30, 2027.
INFORMATION/DISCUSSION
Williams Legislation Uniform Complaints
The Board received a report indicating the district received no complaints related to instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that pose a threat to the health and safety of pupils or staff, or teacher vacancy or misassignment during the first quarter of the 2024/25 school year.
