SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Pledge of Allegiance
Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 676 led the Pledge of Allegiance
School Presentation: Juliet Morris Elementary School
Morris students and staff members performed several acts from their recent Annual Talent Show held on April 5.
Staff Presentation: Language Arts Curriculum Implementation Update
Tandy Taylor, Director of Instructional Services, provided the Board with an overview of the district's 2018/19 implementation of new English language arts/English language development curriculum.
BOARD ACTIONS
Hearing and Vision Screenings
As required by law, students in transitional kindergarten/kindergarten, second, and fifth grades undergo a vision and hearing appraisal. In addition, special education students are screened every three years. The Board approved renewing an agreement with California Sensory Screening, Inc. to perform these appraisals during the 2019/20 school year at an estimated cost of $8,000.

MySchoolLocator Annual License Agreement
Term: February 28, 2019 - February 27, 2020
Cost: $995.00

Recognition of Teachers and Classified Employees
The Board adopted resolutions designating May 8 as Day of the Teacher and May 20-24 as Classified School Employee Week to honor the district's certificated and classified employees for their dedicated service.

Purchase and Installation of SMART Interactive Panels
As part of a three-year phased SMART Board refreshment plan, the Board approved contracting with Alpha Solutions for the purchase and installation of 60 SMART interactive panels for classrooms across the district at a total cost of $289,110.90.

District Keynote Address
An agreement with Mark Schumacher was approved for a keynote address for the annual back-to-school staff event on August 5, 2019. The presentation, entitled Strengthening Schools: One Relationship at a Time, supports the district's goals for student achievement and climate. The total cost of $2,500 will be partially offset by donations from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and California Schools Voluntary Employees Benefits Association (VEBA).

Board Governance Handbook
On March 2, 2019, the Board participated in a governance leadership workshop, led by California School Boards Association consultant Luan Rivera, and updated its Governance Handbook. The Board formally adopted the revised handbook at the April Board Meeting.
BOARD DISCUSSION
Williams Legislation Uniform Complaints
The Board received a report indicating the district received no complaints regarding deficiencies related to instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that might pose a threat to the health or safety of students or staff, and teacher vacancy or misassignment during the third quarter of the 2018/19 school year.
