SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Recognition of Board President Sandra Lee
Trustee Sandra Lee was recognized for her outstanding leadership as Board President during 2019.

Organizational Meeting
Each year the Board holds an organizational meeting during which, among other administrative tasks, officers are elected and a schedule of regular meetings is developed for the upcoming calendar year.

Board Officers for 2020 are:

BOARD ACTIONS
Revised Classified Substitute Salary Schedule  
The Classified Substitute Salary Schedule was updated to reflect salary adjustments for three classifications to meet the new California minimum wage of $13.00 per hour effective January 1, 2020. Other job titles were revised and/or added to align with classification changes made since the schedule was last approved in 2014. 

Maintenance Specialist/General Job Description
The Board approved closing the position of Lead Maintenance Worker following retirement of the incumbent and reopening the position of Maintenance Worker with a revised job description and new title of Maintenance Specialist/General, but no change in salary.  

GASELPA Community Advisory Committee
The Board appointed Vessels parent Olivia Oshiro as the district’s representative on the Greater Anaheim Special Education Local Plan Area (GASELPA) Community Advisory Committee.

Surplus Property
In accordance with Education Code, the Board declared the buildings at 5712 and 5732 Camp Street as surplus property.

Camp Street Demolition Project 
The Board authorized demolition of the Camp Street buildings, which are old and deteriorated and in unsalable condition. The total cost for abatement and demolition is $84,539, of which $12,465 will be paid by the previous tenant, Straight Talk. 

2018/19 Audit Report  
The audit report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019, prepared by Nigro & Nigro, PC, was presented to the Board.  

2019/20 First Interim Financial Report
The district is required to submit a First Interim Financial Report by December 15 of each year reflecting actual revenue and expenses as of October 31 as well as projected revenue and expenses through June 30. The Board certified the district's 2019/20 First Interim Financial Report and authorized filing a positive certification with the Orange County Department of Education and California Department of Education. A Second Interim Financial Report will be presented to the Board in March 2020.

Cypress Education Foundation Board of Directors
The Cypress Education Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of five members – the Superintendent, two directors appointed annually by the Superintendent, and two directors and an alternate appointed annually by the Board of Trustees. At the December meeting, the Board appointed Christine Barnes and Christie Parker as directors and Ethel Bowman as alternate director for 2020.

California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly  
The Board of Trustees is a member of the California School Boards Association (CSBA). The CSBA Delegate Assembly provides policy direction for the association and ensures that the association reflects the interests of school districts and county offices of education. Trustee Kern has served as a delegate representing Orange County since 2016. The Board nominated Trustee Kern for a third two-year term.

Board Compensation for Missed Meetings  
Per Board Bylaw 9250, the Board must take action to authorize full compensation for any Board Member who was absent from a meeting. Resolutions were adopted authorizing full compensation for the month of November for Trustees Kern and Sondhi, who were unable to attend the November 14, 2019, Regular Board Meeting.
