Excerpts from the Regular Meeting of the Cypress School District

School Presentation: A.E. Arnold Elementary School
Arnold first grade students performed three Readers Theater story adaptations. Readers Theater is a program in which students "perform" by reading scripts created from grade-level books or stories. The program provides an opportunity for students to practice reading fluency and develop expression and speaking skills as well as interpersonal, social, and collaborative skills. 

Staff Presentation: Student Subgroup Performance on the 2018 Administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessments
Julie Gautreau, Coordinator of Assessment and Technology, provided a report on the 2018 Smarter Balanced assessment results of the district's significant ethnic groups as well as special education, English learner, and socioeconomically disadvantaged student populations.
Annual Agreement Renewals
The following annual agreements were renewed:  

  • School Services of California for assistance regarding school finance, legislation, school budgeting, and general fiscal issues during the period January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019, at a not-to-exceed cost of $4,000.

  • Theresa Vaughn with Worksite Specialists for health insurance consultation services during the period January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021, at a cost of $40,000.

2017/18 School Accountability Report Cards
The Board approved publication of the district's 2017/18 School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs), which provide the public with important information about each school, including progress toward achieving its goals. Cypress School District SARCs are published on the district website.  

Special Education Student Transportation
A master agreement with Zum Services, Inc. was approved for transportation of special education students that cannot be handled by the district's transportation department. Services will be utilized on an as-needed basis with individual costs presented for Board approval as contracted throughout the year.

Industrial Storm Water General Permit
The Board ratified a three-year agreement with Frog Environmental for No-Exposure Certification services related to maintenance of the district's school buses at the city's Maintenance Yard at a cost of $2,775.

Swain License to Use Agreement
The License to Use Agreement with Wisdom Mission School and Chapel for the closed Swain Elementary School campus was modified to include use of the main office area and two additional classrooms for the period January 1, 2019, through June 30, 2019, at a rate of $7,420.69 per month plus a percentage of utility costs.
Williams Legislation Uniform Complaints, Second Quarter 2018/19
The Board received a report indicating the district received no public complaints during the second quarter of the 2018/19 school year regarding deficiencies related to instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that might pose a threat to the health or safety of students or staff, or teacher vacancy or misassignment.
