Consent Agenda
The Board approved a number of routine consent items, including gifts and grants to the district, Human Resources transactions, purchase orders and checks, and contract renewals. Details regarding these items can be found in the Board meeting agenda.
Screening Tool for Assessment of Reading Difficulties in K-2 Students
To meet an Education Code requirement that districts assess students in kindergarten through second grade for reading difficulties, the Board approved an agreement with the Regents of the University of California for use of the Multitudes Universal Screening Tool at no cost to the district.
eduCLIMBER Data Tracking and Collection Platform
The Board authorized contracting with Renaissance Learning for their eduCLIMBER data tracking and collection platform, which integrates academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional data into a single, interactive system, allowing staff to easily track student progress, identify at-risk students, monitor interventions, and assess the impact of support strategies over time. The cost for the 2025/26 school year is $21,002.16.
Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Plan
The Board approved the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Plan, which outlines the district’s structure for delivering program services to students.
Proposition 28 Arts Plan
The Board approved the district’s Proposition 28 Arts Plan, which describes the goals and actions to ensure students receive a robust music education program.
2025/26 School Plan for Student Achievement for King
Schools receiving Title I funds are required to develop a School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) identifying goals for improving student outcomes. The Board approved the 2025/26 SPSA for Clara J. King Elementary School.
Disposal of Obsolete/Damaged Instructional Materials
Instructional materials are inventoried periodically to identify items that are obsolete and/or damaged beyond repair. Following such an inventory, the Board authorized the disposal of library books. The list of titles is available in the Board agenda.
Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators
In order to meet district staffing needs, it is sometimes necessary to file for short-term teaching authorizations with the state for individuals who are not fully credentialed in the specialty areas to which they are assigned. The Board adopted the district's 2025/26 Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators indicating the potential need for one CLAD/English Learner Authorization, one Bilingual Authorization, two Resource Specialist permits, and one Emergency Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) permit; three Multiple Subject and two Special Education limited assignment permits; and two interns.
Water Softening Service for School Kitchens
The Board approved contracting with Pacific Coast Water Systems for water softening service for the school kitchens at King, Landell, Morris, and Vessels at a total annual cost of $3,441.60. The kitchens at Arnold and Luther do not have sufficient space to accommodate a water softening system.
Food Safety Training and Monitoring Program
To help maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation as the district continues its transition to scratch cooking, the Board approved contracting with Food Safety Systems for a comprehensive program that includes USDA-aligned staff training, eight service visits per site, cleaning materials, and detailed compliance audits from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, at a total cost of $16,800.
Property & Liability and Workers' Compensation Insurance
The district participates in public risk-sharing pools for its property & liability and Workers' Compensation insurance. The Board ratified 2025/26 annual contributions of $451,385 for property & liability insurance and $529,355 for Workers' Compensation insurance.
