SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Staff Presentation: Music Program 
Tandy Taylor, Director of Instructional Services, provided a presentation on the district's music program. Students from the ukulele group at Arnold, led by music teacher Cathy Kim, performed.
Recognition of 2018/19 Retirees
The following employees who retired or are retiring during the 2018/19 school year were recognized for their years of service to the district:

Agreements for the use of vacant school sites were approved as follows:

Administrative Appointments
The Board took action to reassign Rena Gibbs, Ed.D., from Principal at Arnold School to Coordinator, Assessment and Technology, and appoint Vanessa DeSantis as the new Principal at Arnold. 

Collective Bargaining
A public hearing was held regarding the district's proposal for 2019/20 contract negotiations with the Association of Cypress Teachers, which includes the following articles: Wages, Hours of Employment, and Health and Welfare Benefits. There were no speakers, and the Board subsequently voted to adopt the district's initial proposal. 

Revised Job Description: Grounds Equipment Operator
The Board approved a revised job description for the position of Grounds Equipment Operator reflecting current job duties and employment requirements with no change in salary.  

JumpStart4Kids Mental Health Services
Under an agreement approved by the Board, Western Youth Services will provide social, emotional, and behavioral support services for students at Arnold and Luther during the 2019/20 school year at a cost not to exceed $95,000. 

2018/19 Education Protection Account
Funds generated by Proposition 30, the temporary tax increase passed in 2012, are deposited in a state Education Protection Account. Districts must annually identify how its EPA funds will be used. At the May meeting, the Board adopted a resolution approving the district's spending determination of the Education Protection Account for 2018/19 in the amount of $771,426.00. The resolution and accounting of the district's 2018/19 funding plan can be viewed here.

Summer Maintenance Projects 
Multiple summer maintenance projects will be performed by M.P. South under a master agreement approved by the Board in November 2018. These projects include asphalt repair/replacement at Arnold, Morris, Luther, Landell, and King; roof replacement at Morris and King; HVAC replacement at Morris; exterior painting at Cawthon and Landell; storage building demolition at the District Office; drainage improvement at Morris and Vessels; and landscaping at Vessels. The total project cost is $758,346.77.

Playground Equipment and Surfacing at Vessels 
The Board authorized contracting with Dave Bang Associates for the purchase and installation of playground equipment and rubber playground surfacing at Vessels at a total cost of $85,887.14. Installation is scheduled for this summer.

BOARD DISCUSSION
Board Self-Evaluation
The Board discussed its annual self-evaluation using the California School Boards Association's online Board Self-Evaluation Survey. The Board will complete the evaluation between May 21 and June 3, and the results will be reviewed at the June 20 Board Meeting. The cost for the CSBA Self-Evaluation Survey is $200.
