At Tuesday's Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board was delighted to recognize the following Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) 2024 falls sports team and individual champions. Congratulations to our amazing FCPS students for their incredible achievements!

I presented the below Board Matter:
The Board authorized the advertisement of a Public Hearing on January 14th to consider an ordinance amending and readopting the Fairfax County Code. This includes:
- Renaming the Hunters Branch Precinct Polling Place to the Jim Scott Community Center.
- Renaming a voter satellite office.
- Renaming polling places in the Mason District.
- Relocating polling places in the Springfield District.
- Correcting a scrivener's error.
Additionally, the Board approved amendments to the proffers and conceptual development plans, along with associated site design modifications, to permit the redevelopment of the Judicial Complex Campus.

Stuff the Bus
Launched in 2011, Stuff the Bus is a collaborative effort between Fairfax County and local nonprofits to combat food insecurity. Over the past 13 years, this program has collected over 220 tons of food to assist families facing food shortages. The Winter Stuff the Bus campaign is starting soon!

Art Gallery at The PARC and Art Giving Program
Join Celebrate Fairfax and mosaicARTs for the Art Closing Reception & Winter Market on Saturday, December 14th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at The PARC at Tysons.
This is an opportunity to join Heloisa Escudero's interactive project starting at 12 pm and explore Hyunsuk Erickson's installation and a variety of other artwork, including 2D/3D found object art, mosaics, sculptures, photography, and paintings.
Many artists offer 10-25% discounts through the Art Giving Program.

Angelique Palmer is named the 2024-2027 Fairfax County Poet Laureate. Through the designation of a Fairfax County Poet Laureate, ArtsFairfax celebrates and supports a local writer to raise the visibility of poetry, engages new audiences, and encourages the creation of poetry and other literary works in the Northern Virginia community.

Northern Virginia Local Arts Agencies (NVLAA), a collaboration between ArtsFairfax, Arlington Cultural Affairs, and the City of Alexandria Office of the Arts, announce seven free workshops designed for artists, arts administrators, and arts organizations.

Join the virtual discussion on the Tysons-Scotts Run Gateway transformation on Tuesday, December 10th from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. This project will enhance Tysons’ identity as a vibrant urban hub with specially designed artwork by renowned artist Vicki Scurri. Located at Dolley Madison Boulevard and the Dulles Area Access Road, the gateway will feature custom designs and neighborhood branding as part of a bridge rehabilitation project with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Oakton Community Open House
Fairfax County is evaluating the former AT&T campus in Oakton as a neighborhood-focused mixed-use center. A community open house on Tuesday, December 17th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Jim Scott Community Center will feature small group sessions and conversations where participants can help shape the County's long-range development policy for the site.
County staff and the developer's representatives will be available to answer questions. Come any time - short presentations will be held at 6:30 and 7:45 pm.
Light snacks, transportation, and school-age childcare services for the meeting will be available. To request transportation or childcare services for the community open house, email ncscrccregion3@fairfaxcounty.gov or call 703- 787-4962. Requests require notice at least one week before the meeting.

Active Transportation and Trail Network Survey
Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is working to combine the Fairfax County Bicycle Master Plan and the Countywide Trails Plan, and is seeking comments to ensure a safe, comfortable and convenient network of active transportation options and trails.

Gallows Road Study
Fairfax County Transportation held three meetings to discuss vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle improvements for Gallows Road and presented different options for each mode. To collect additional feedback, the Gallows Road Study Survey will be available until Tuesday, December 31st, and you may also call 703-890-5898, Project Code 10915 to leave a recorded voice mail for the study team.

The Talent Up Fairfax Fund is a Fairfax County workforce incentive, supported by funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act, that matches county job seekers with Fairfax County employers seeking to quickly fill open jobs through funded internship opportunities.
