February 22, 2024

Dear Providence,

On Tuesday, the County Executive presented his budget to the Board, which officially kicks off our FY '25 Budget season here in Fairfax County. I encourage you to take a look at the FY 2025 advertised budget plan and please reach out to my office with your thoughts and questions. There will be many opportunities to reach out and engage in this process, and I especially encourage you to join me and School Board Member Karl Frisch for the annual Providence District Budget Town Hall on April 2nd at 5:30PM. Our county and school staff with present both budgets and we will all take questions live as well as ahead of time via email.

The 2024 real estate assessments are now available. Notices are being mailed out to homeowners and can also be accessed online. Seniors, people with disabilities, and spouses of military members who died in the line of duty may qualify for real estate tax relief. If you believe your real estate is incorrectly assessed, you can file an appeal.

Have you voted yet for the upcoming Presidential Primary Election? If not, 13 additional early voting locations will open this Saturday, making voting easier for many residents, including at the Jim Scott Community Center. Please note that hours vary per location.

Lastly, the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) has released its strategic plan. It outlines the five themes that will guide TCA's work over the next several years in helping ensure Tysons continues to grow as a virbant urban center.

With gratitude,

Board Meeting Highlights

At Tuesday's meeting, the County Executive presented the FY 2025 advertised budget plan. This was the first time the Board had seen the presentation. I am looking forward to diving deeper into this proposal and discussing it with the community. A few items to highlight include:

  • Real Estate Tax rate of $1.135 per $100 of assessed value
  • Funding for a 2% market rate adjustment and performance, merit, and longevity increases for general county employees
  • A $165 million increase for Fairfax County Public Schools
  • Full funding for the first year of the Public Safety collective bargaining agreements

Your input on this proposal is crucial. I highly encourage your participation in this process. Below are ways you can share your input:

Lastly, I presented the following Board Matters:

Ways to Give Back

To celebrate Women's History Month, I have partnered with my colleagues on the Board to host a menstrual supplies drive. In addition, drop-off boxes will also be available at all Fairfax Public Library branches. Donations of unopened packages of tampons, pads, liners, and menstrual cups will be collected around the County. These items will support local shelters and nonprofit organizations.

The collected items in Providence will benefit BRAWS.
