Trustees approve attendance boundaries for 2021-2022 school year
Following a board workshop and community input, trustees approved new attendance boundaries for the 2021-2022 school year to incorporate the district’s 20th elementary campus, prevent campus overcrowding, minimize future boundary changes, maintain healthy student-teacher ratios and improve school efficiency.
Elementary schools with boundary changes include Justin, Prairie View, Roanoke, Cox, Schluter, Nance and Curtis elementary schools. The Peterson Elementary feeder pattern was also updated so that students will attend Wilson Middle School instead of Adams Middle School.
Boundary lines were updated for all NISD middle schools.
Students currently in fourth and seventh grades are eligible to remain at their current campus by requesting an intra-district transfer. In addition, students who are currently attending Adams Middle School as sixth and seventh graders are eligible to remain at Adams for the 2021-2022 school year. In order to do so, those students should request an intra-district transfer.
Bus transportation will not be provided for students who choose to remain at their current campus through intra-district transfer, and younger siblings are not eligible.

Ryan Barnhart named principal of Tidwell Middle School
Ryan Barnhart, an assistant principal at Northwest High School, was named principal of Tidwell Middle School. Barnhart will officially begin his new role at Tidwell in July.
“We are very excited for Ryan to lead Tidwell Middle School,” said Superintendent Ryder Warren. “He understands the Northwest ISD culture of putting kids first, taking care of each other, and delivering excellence for our students.”
Barnhart will take over the principal role from Justin Vercher who has been named principal of NISD’s new Berkshire Elementary School scheduled to open in August. Barnhart has served Northwest High School as assistant principal since 2017. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal in Aubrey ISD and was a teacher and coach in Prosper ISD, McKinney ISD and at Liberty Christian School. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Texas Woman’s University.
Barnhart earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Kansas. His degrees are in secondary English education and sports studies. He is married to Mary Kay Barnhart, a kindergarten teacher at Beck Elementary School. Barnhart says his family spends a great deal of time in the Roanoke area and they are looking forward to continuing to be a part of the community.

NISD sees record-breaking number of new homes started in 4th quarter
Northwest ISD had 2,833 new homes begin construction in 2020, the highest number among DFW school districts, demographers told trustees Monday night during their most recent update. That number includes 1,066 new homes that began construction from October to December, a record-breaking number that almost doubled from the previous quarter.
The fastest-growing subdivisions, which started construction on more than 300 homes in 2020, include Wellington, Bridgeview, Pecan Square and Trails of Elizabeth Creek.
New home sales totaled 5,800 last year and existing home sales continued to surge as well. Average home prices increased by more than $5,000 from 2019, demographers said.
Current estimates predict that NISD will enroll more than 32,000 for the 2025-2026 school year and more than 39,300 by 2030-2031. Click here to view the demographic report.
