KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Washington County Board of County Commissioners Adopts Resolution Supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Local Law Enforcement


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) adopted a resolution expressing full support for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and local law enforcement agencies. The resolution recognizes DHS and ICE for safeguarding the nation’s borders and enforcing immigration laws, and acknowledges local law enforcement for maintaining public order, responding to emergencies, and treating residents with dignity and compassion. The Board pledged not to use their elected positions to oppose or hinder these agencies and emphasized the importance of federal and local cooperation to ensure the safety and security of all citizens and legal residents. The resolution took effect immediately and copies will be sent to the relevant agencies.

Washington County Circuit Court Receives Grant for Family Support Services


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the application and acceptance of grant funding from the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts, Department of Juvenile & Family Services, to support Family Support Services in the Circuit Court. The grant funds salaries and benefits for the Family Services Coordinator and Permanency Planning Liaison, the Family Law Self-Help Clinic, and other family support services such as mediation, parenting classes, evaluations, and supervised visitation. If full funding is not awarded, the County would cover the two key salary positions, while other services would be reduced unless supplemental funding is secured.

Washington County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Receives Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Rural Health Grant for Blood Program Expansion


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the submission and acceptance in Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) of Rural Health Grant funding from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) to enhance Washington County’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Blood Program. The funding will expand the program to include the remaining two (2) EMS supervisor vehicles and reimburse the County for previously budgeted equipment and disposables.

OTHER ACTION TAKEN BY THE BOARD

  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved multiple purchase awards and contract renewals across various County departments.
  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) received the Washington County Commission on Aging / Area Agency on Aging’s FY2027 Budget Presentation.
  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the submittal of a grant extension, spend down waiver, and budget modification for the FY25 Community Development Block Grant for San Mar’s Youth Transitional Housing Project.
