This communication provides a summary of the key actions and highlights from the most recent public meeting of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Board Approves Long-Term Hotel Rental Tax Funding for Washington County Ag Expo

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a long-term contract committing Hotel Rental Tax funding to support the Washington County Ag Expo and Fair. This funding recognizes the lifetime contributions of Adna "Ad" Fulton, whose work has significantly advanced the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, strengthened the local agricultural community, and provided educational and recreational opportunities for youth and residents. The commitment ensures the continuation of the Ag Expo and Fair while celebrating community engagement and honoring Fulton’s lasting impact on agriculture and residents throughout Washington County.

Board Approves Stoner Family Farms Rural Legacy Easement

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the Stoner Family Farms LLC Rural Legacy Program easement, permanently preserving 61.3 acres of valuable agricultural, scenic, and environmentally significant land near Sharpsburg and the Antietam Battlefield. The easement extinguishes seven (7) development rights and adds to a large block of contiguous preserved farmland, protecting historic and natural resources. Fully funded by the State through the Department of Natural Resources, this project is part of Washington County’s ongoing Rural Legacy Program, which has conserved thousands of acres in the region since 1998, ensuring the long-term protection of farmland and environmentally sensitive areas.

Board Approves Hotel Rental Tax Support for Jamison Door Company Relocation and Expansion

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the use of Hotel Rental Tax funds to support Jamison Door Company’s relocation and new manufacturing facility at Mount Aetna Technology Park. The incentive is structured as a performance-based agreement to retain 105 existing jobs and create 100–200 new full-time positions by the end of 2029. Funding is contingent upon the company completing the property acquisition, constructing the facility as proposed, and meeting investment and job creation milestones. This project represents a strategic economic development investment to strengthen Washington County’s manufacturing sector and local workforce.
