KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Proclamation Recognizes American Red Cross Month


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) presented a proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month in Washington County. The proclamation honors the organization’s humanitarian mission and the dedication of volunteers who provide critical services for disaster relief, collect blood donations, and provide support for military families. This recognition highlights the continued impact of the American Red Cross in strengthening community resilience and assisting residents in times of need.

Proclamation Recognizes National Agriculture Day


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) presented a proclamation recognizing March 24, 2026, as National Agriculture Day. The proclamation acknowledges agriculture as a vital and historic industry in Washington County. This proclamation emphasizes the role agriculture plays in supporting the local economy, preserving rural character, and ensuring food security. The recognition also highlights the contributions of the Department of Business and Economic Development in promoting and supporting the agricultural community.

Grants Approved to Support Mediation and School-Based Health Services


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved multiple grant applications to enhance community services. A grant submission was approved for the Circuit Court mediation program to apply for funding that will assist low-income and self-represented individuals in resolving disputes. An additional grant application submission was approved  for school-based health centers that provide medical care, chronic disease management, and preventive services to students in Washington County.

Transit Grant Funding Approved


The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the grant application for and to accept awarded funding of state and federal transit funds through the Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland Transit Administration. Once the grant is approved, these funds will support fixed-route transit services, ADA paratransit, and specialized transportation programs. Additionally, these funds will ensure continued mobility and accessibility for Washington County residents.

OTHER ACTION TAKEN BY THE BOARD

  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved multiple purchase awards and contract renewals across various County departments.
  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) received presentations on the proposed FY2027 Highway, Golf Course, and Airport budgets. Each budget presentation outlines operational needs, projected revenues, and estimated expenditures to support County infrastructure and services.
  • The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) reviewed a proposal to merge the Historic District Commission and the Historical Advisory Committee to streamline operations, improve coordination, and strengthen historic preservation efforts within the County.
