Key Points from the Regular Meeting

held on March 6, 2024

  • The Board approved of Pinal County requesting to become a party to the Good Neighbor Agreement between the Town of Superior and Resolution Copper, and authorizing a District #5 Representative to participate in the Community Working Group meetings. Click here to read the agreement. (Item 8E)


  • In the 2024 state legislative session update, Supervisor Miller explained that in his role as President of the County Supervisors Association (CSA), he oversees legislative policy meetings, and how bills impact Arizona's fifteen counties. One bill he spoke of that is being discussed is Senate Bill 1278/House Bill 2703, which is related to how long County Supervisors have to fill a vacancy at the State Legislature. Additionally, Supervisor Miller says that he was successful with a floor amendment on House Bill 2647, which is related to certificates of assured water. (Item 6)
  • The Board approved a Proclamation identifying April as "Fair Housing Month." Pictured with the Board is Marshell Williams from the County's Housing Authority Department, who read the proclamation into the record. (Item 5)
  • Two Open Space & Trails Advisory Commission appointments were announced for terms through April 2028. In District 4, Supervisor McClure reappointed Josh Bowman to the Commission, while in District 1, Supervisor Cavanaugh appointed Robin Davis. Ms. Davis is pictured right with Supervisor Cavanaugh.   • The Board approved the appointment of Mike Cruz of Lucid Motors (Business Sector) to the Pinal County Workforce Development Board. The term of service will be March 7, 2024, to March 6, 2026. Cruz, formerly District Administrator to Supervisor Miller, is pictured below with the Board, Workforce Development Chair Harold Christ, and Workforce Development Director Joel Millman. (Item 8I)
  • In the County Manager's report, Leo Lew informed the Board and public that the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is doing a study on the alignment of Meridian Road from the SR 24, north to Broadway Road (see map below). He also announced that Jeanne Brandner (pictured below right) has been appointed as Director of Juvenile Court Services. Ms. Brandner, who began on Monday, takes over from Denise Smith, who retired last week after 37 years of Service to Pinal County. (Item 2)
