Key Points from the Regular Meeting

held on November 1, 2023

  • It was a busy meeting of public hearings with no less than ten spanning items 13 through 22. These included approval as presented of a Planned Area Development (PAD) Overlay District and a rezone from General Rural-GR to Community Commercial-C-2 (9.32 acres) and Multiple Residence-MR (18.43 acres) on 27.74 ± acres, to allow a mixed-use development plan located west of Hunt Highway and south of north Stone Creek Dr. in the San Tan Valley area; and approval of an Industrial Use Permit to operate an electric vehicle battery pack testing facility, on a 480.0± acre parcel in the Industrial (I-3) Zoning District located as part of the Pinal County Airpark within proximity to Red Rock Community. The approval of the application, submitted on behalf of Lucid Motors, included the rewording of one of nine stipulations to read: this IUP runs commensurate with the terms of the lease.   • The Board approved items related to Risk Assessment FY23, Internal Audit Plan FY24-26, and the 22-23 Silent Whistle Update, all presented by Eric Groen of Internal Audit. In Item 10, the Internal Audit Plan FY24-26, Data Governance Audit estimated timing was updated to read 2024 Q2. (Items 9, 10, 11)
  • In the Supervisor District Updates item, Supervisor Miller informed the public about a Veterans Day fundraiser he'll be attending at Attesa on Friday, November 11th. Click here for more info. Supervisor McClure said that he will be in Arizona City for a Community Meeting this Friday between 3-5 p.m. along with County Attorney Kent Volkmer and Recorder Dana Lewis. Click here for more info. Supervisor Cavanaugh expressed his happiness that fire hydrants have been installed in the community of Randolph. And Chairman Serdy informed the public about a recent announcement from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to develop the Goldfield Recreation Area for non-motorized day use northeast of Apache Junction.   • In the County Manager's report, Leo Lew informed the public that Peralta Regional Park will be closed on Saturday for an employee and family Picnic in the Park event. He also announced that Development Services will be adjusting its hours in the New Year, extending hours Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the one-stop-shop closing to the public on Fridays.   • Supervisor Serdy appointed Frank Davila of Dudleyville to the Planning and Zoning Commission to serve out the term through February 16, 2024, due to a current vacancy on the Commission for District 5. Frank is pictured below with Supervisor Serdy. (Item 6D)
  • In discussion for future agenda items, Chairman Serdy requested County Attorney Kent Volkmer address the board as soon as possible on a recent court ruling on hand-counting ballots (Item 23)
