The Board of Trustees (BoT) met Feb. 20 for its regular monthly meeting. Here are some highlights of the 66-minute gathering:

  • A Familiar Face: The BoT appointed Roger Lundberg as a Trustee to fill the vacancy left by Scott Fresh, who died in January. Soon after, Trustee Lundberg, who previously was a Board member from 2020-2024, was added as one of the Township members to the Parks and Recreation Commission. He took the Oath of Office from Clerk Cynthia L. Jankowski.
  • In the Zone: The BoT named Michael Kowalczyk to join the Zoning Board of Appeals.
  • Equipment Assets: The BoT approved two purchases for the Department of Public Works. They are a tandem axle dump truck for $190,439, and a Vactor sewer cleaner for $582,691.84, both expenses that Public Works had included in its 5-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The Public Safety team requested the replacement of three aging police vehicles for $191,110.22. It, too, had included it in its CIP plan.
  • Legacy Park Safety: Police and Fire also requested and received approval to acquire two utility all-terrain vehicles for $75,313.71. They are necessary to access people in emergency situations in remote parts of Legacy Park where traditional Police and Fire vehicles cannot reach.
  • Farmers Market Progress: The Board approved the revised Consortium Agreement for the Northville Commons property, the future site of the Northville Farmers Market at Seven Mile Road and S. Main Street. It had previously been revised by the Northville City Council. Supervisor Mark J. Abbo and Clerk Cynthia L. Jankowski will serve on the Consortium’s Membership Board, along with City of Northville members.
  • Pathway Grant Fund Agreement: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) awarded the Township $300,000 to use toward the construction of the Seven Mile Road pathway that connects the Hines Park Regional Trail, the I-275 Regional Trail and Legacy Park. The BoT approved the grant agreement, including a MDNR stipulation that a 7.3-acre segment adjacent to the recreational land must be used for outdoor recreational activities only.
  • New Website Address Coming Soon: Northville Township has secured a new domain name and will be transitioning to an official U.S. government address this summer. This will impact the Township’s website and email addresses. The new name will be NorthvilleTownshipMI.gov. Stay tuned for more information to come on the change.
