The Board of Trustees (BoT) met March 20 for its regular monthly meeting. Here are some highlights of the 80-minute gathering:

Retirement Recognition: Two important Public Safety team members who are retiring were honored for their outstanding careers, Police Lt. Mike Burrough and Fire Battalion Chief Brad Neuhart.

  • Lt. Burrough, who was a paramedic before transitioning to law enforcement, marked 33 years of helping others, with 20 of those years at Northville Township.
  • Fire Battalion Chief Brad Neuhart has 24 years with Northville Township and his rookie year with Van Buren Township.

The Board thanked them for their excellent service.

Northville Commons Farmers Market Funding: The Board approved a $91,500 agreement with Cunningham-Limp for site clean-up of the Northville Commons Farmers Market. Northville Township will pay the $91,500 to expedite the process as the first Farmers Market is scheduled in May. The Township will seek reimbursement from the City of Northville, which owns half of the land. Work will begin after Michigan’s weight-restricting frost laws are lifted.

Beck Road Pathway Potential: The Township’s Pathway Committee is exploring adding a pathway on the east side of Beck Road between Six Mile and Seven Mile roads. To see what’s involved, the Board approved hiring Michael Baker International to conduct a detailed survey and feasibility study. This firm was selected due to its deep knowledge about the Beck Road corridor and the potential improvements to it in the future. The fee is expected to be under $52,300.

More Pathways to be Added: Because walkability is important to residents, the Board approved a contract with WSP Engineers to plan two other pathway projects this year. The first is on Six Mile, from the Ravines subdivision down to Hines Drive. The second also is along Six Mile, west of Beck Road. The $26,191 contract will provide a survey, design, staking and more for these pathways. They are expected to be completed in the fall.

Walkway Upgrades at Northville Community Center: The concrete walkways in front of the Northville Community Center (NCC) will be replaced. This is where many Senior Services and Northville Parks & Recreation programs occur. To assist patrons, they will now be ADA compliant complete with a handrail, which was selected to blend in with Downtown Northville’s historic charm. Because NCC has three entry ways along Main Street, at least one entrance will be available during the construction phase. Greenlawn Landscaping Maintenance Co. of Farmington Hills will start the project in mid- to late summer. It is expected to cost $60,078 or less.

Northville Township Board of Trustee meetings are held the third Thursday of every month in Township Hall’s Assembly Room at 7 pm, unless noted otherwise. Please join us.
