The Board of Trustees (BoT) met Jan. 15 for its regular monthly meeting. Here are some highlights of the 68-minute gathering:

Remembering a Friend. Supervisor Mark J. Abbo acknowledged Township Trustee Scott Frush on the first anniversary of his death. “Scott, if you’re listening, we miss you and we haven’t forgotten about you,” he said.

Board Objects to Neighbor’s Landfill Expansion or Creation. The BoT passed a resolution to object to the expansion or creation of a new landfill in Salem Township and resolved to take other actions as necessary to further their stance.

Election Commission Vacancy Filled. Trustee Roger Lundberg agreed to join the Election Commission, a role he previously had. He is filling a vacancy left by Trustee Mindy Herrmann, who stepped away from the committee.

Legacy Park’s New Trail System Applauded. Northville Parks & Recreation Director Derek O. Smith shared an update on the completion of Legacy Park’s three phases of hiking and biking trails and the success of its first few months. The trail construction was nearly $127,000 under budget. The 350-acre Legacy Park has become a trail destination for adventure seekers who travel long distances to enjoy it. “Legacy Park has something for everyone,” he said. The presentation is on the Township’s website.

Special Assessment District Policy Revised. Northville Township reintroduced the use of Special Assessment Districts in 2022 to assist neighborhoods wanting to make improvements like adding curbs, roads, street lighting and other public enhancements. Because of the intricacies of SAD projects, the policy went under legal review to ensure compliance with state law.

On the Road. Public Works has budgeted for a new vehicle for the Deputy Public Services Director to use for daily details and emergency responses. The 2026 Jeep Wagoneer totaled $63,823.

Fire Station 1 to Replace 25-year-old Bay Doors. A planned capital improvement project will replace all eight overhead doors at Fire Station 1. The project will include many enhanced safety features. The cost is $244,211.94.

Police Ordinance Updated. The Police Department is updating its disorderly conduct ordinance. In the section that talks about fraudulent schemes, there is missing verbiage that would allow a defense attorney to challenge jurisdiction. This update adopts language from the state code to allow the prosecutor to charge where the victim resides or where the offense took place.

Consolidating Voting Precincts. Northville Township received approval from the state of Michigan to consolidate precincts, reducing the current 12 precincts to 10. This consolidation will not only reduce the cost of elections but provide for greater efficiencies on election day. This will be effective with the Aug. 4, 2026, primary. Precincts 1 & 2 and 10 & 11 will be affected, as well as renumbering Precinct 12 to Precinct 10. New voter cards should arrive via USPS within the next two to three weeks.

Blood Drive is Feb. 9. Northville Parks & Recreation is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive Monday, Feb. 9 from 10 am-3:30 pm at the Northville Community Center, 303 W. Main Street. Book a time by visiting https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=nvillecc.
