Board recognizes National Merit Semifinalists |

At the Nov. 2 Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized eight Barrington High School students who have been named 2022 National Merit Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The students now have the opportunity to compete for about 7,500 scholarships, worth nearly $30 million. Board recognizes girls golf state champions |

At the Nov. 2 Board meeting, the Board recognized the BHS Varsity Girls Golf Team, which recently won the Class 2A IHSA State Championship. BHS took the top spot over Stevenson High School, followed by Loyola Academy. This marks the first time in BHS history that the Varsity Girls Golf Team has won the state championship. The team had three straight 2nd place finishes 2016-2018.
In addition to the team championship win, BHS senior Mara Janess took the individual state title for the second time and BHS senior Sophia Sulkar tied for 2nd place in the individual tournament. Janess became the first state champion in history for the BHS girls golf team in 2019 when she was a sophomore at BHS. The team is coached by Tim Martin, who works as a counselor at the high school and Assistant Coach Laura Murray, who works as a Special Education Teacher at Prairie Middle School.

In his Superintendent's Report at the Nov. 2 Board meeting, Dr. Robert Hunt shared a few COVID-19 related updates:
COVID-19 DASHBOARD
As a reminder, all COVID cases among students and staff are documented daily on the district's COVID-19 Dashboard, which is linked in each school's regular communications.

A POSITIVE CASE is counted on the day it is reported. Every day after, it is placed in the quarantine category. Positive cases are cases the district is made aware of through parent/guardian or staff self reporting, as well as Shield Testing and BinaxNOW testing done at school.

QUARANTINE CASES are total students and staff not attending school due to testing positive or exposure to a positive case. This includes students who are symptomatic and awaiting test results.

TEST TO STAY (Quarantine) reflects students who are able to participate in in-person learning (after testing negative), rather than quarantining at home full-time due to exposure.
UPCOMING VACCINATION CLINICS
The district is partnering with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health Vaccination Programs to host two optional student vaccination clinics for all interested Barrington 220 families. The clinics will be held on Friday, Nov. 12 at Sunny Hill Elementary and Saturday, Nov. 13 at BHS. Parental consent and registration will be required. SPANISH DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM
During his Superintendent's Report, Dr. Hunt also shared that the district is considering moving the Spanish Dual Language Program out of the Early Learning Center. Currently, all kindergarten students enrolled in the program attend school at the ELC and then continue grades 1-5 at one of the elementary schools that host the program. Moving the program out of the ELC would ensure that Spanish Dual Language students stay at the same elementary school for their entire elementary journey.

Board approves Deputy Superintendent position |

At the Nov. 2 Board meeting, the Board approved Dr. Craig Winkelman as Deputy Superintendent of the Barrington 220 School District. Dr. Winkelman has served as the district's Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Schools & Operations since July 2017. As the Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Winkelman will serve as the second ranking district administrator. He will continue to work closely with the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendents, Principals, and other members of the District Leadership Team to ensure effective general administration of the school district, school improvement initiatives, and Board of Education priorities. This position is not an additional administrative position within the district.
Dr. Winkelman joined Barrington 220 in 1997 and has served in various positions including: Special Education Teacher at BHS, as well as Assistant Principal and Principal at Station Middle School.

Board approves construction bids for Countryside and Roslyn |
|
At the Nov. 2 Board meeting, the Board approved bids for the Build 220 construction projects at Countryside Elementary and Roslyn Road Elementary. An estimated total of $13,384,828 will be spent at both schools, which includes all construction costs and non-construction items such as safety and security, furniture and technology. The bids for construction costs that the Board approved came in at $5,024,471 for both schools, which does not include roofing work. Construction is expected to begin in December for both schools and tentatively wrap up in October 2022 at Roslyn and February 2023 at Countryside. As much work as possible will be done in the summer months in order to minimize disruption. |

Board to pursue contract renewal with BTC |
|
At the Nov. 2 Board meeting, the Board agreed to pursue a contract renewal with Barrington Transportation Company (BTC). The district's contract with Barrington Transportation Company is currently in its last year. At the Oct. 19 Board meeting, district leaders provided the Board with this update on transportation. Board holds public comment on IASB resolutions |
|
At its Nov. 2 meeting, the Board held a public comment session regarding the Illinois Association of School Board's (IASB) 2021 resolution proposals. Every November school boards from across the state send a delegate to the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) conference in Chicago. At this conference, the delegates vote on proposed resolutions IASB will pursue in the upcoming legislative sessions.

In her President's Report at the Nov. 2 Board meeting, Sandra-Ficke Bradford mentioned an upcoming event hosted by the Barrington 220 School District, Barrington Chamber of Commerce, and the Barrington Area Council of Governments.
