Commissioners to Fill Board Vacancy

Measmer Recommended for State Senate

Cabarrus County commissioners have begun the process of finding a replacement for Board Chair Chris Measmer. On Monday, Measmer notified the board that the Cabarrus County Republican Party Executive Committee recommended him to replace N.C. Senator Paul Newton.

If appointed by North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein, Measmer would fulfill Newton’s term through late 2026.

Measmer has served two terms on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners. His current term began in 2022, and he was named board chair in December 2024. His first term ran from 2010 to 2014.

A special meeting will be held Thursday, April 10 at 8:15 a.m. to determine Measmer’s replacement. The selection will be made through a written ballot procedure.

Interested applicants, who must be registered Republicans, have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 to apply online here or in person at the Clerk's office (Suite 235) on the 2nd floor of the Government Center, 65 Church St. S, Concord.

The Board of Commissioner’s special meeting will be broadcast live on Spectrum Channel 22, youtube.com/cabarruscounty and CabCo TV.
