MUSD Board of Trustees lead moment of silence in honor of Michael Mendizabal


MUSD's Board of Education led a moment of silence in honor of former MUSD Trustee Mike Mendizabal, who was first elected to the Board in 1998, re-elected in 2002 and ran unopposed in 2006 and 2010. He was elected four times by his peers as Board President.

Black History Month

MMCHS Black Student Union members featured in African American History Month video


Students in the MUSD Middle College High School's Black Student Union recited Resolution 2025.32 Recognizing and Honoring February as National African American History Month, which was unanimously adopted by the MUSD Board of Education.

3 elementary school student leaders, Black Excellence Collective educators honored


MUSD elementary school students Damoni Gaston, Kehara Shabazz and Taylin Jackson recited hand-selected poetry in celebration of Black History Month and were honored by the Board of Education and District leadership along with our MUSD Black Excellence Collective Educators who hosted the 2025 Black History Month Flag Raising Ceremony in collaboration with the City of Milpitas.

Child Development Centers get funding boost, continue to serve youngest learners


Child Development Center's Coordinator II Early Childhood Education and Family Engagement Vanessa Espitia detailed the programs, goals, and future plans at the Rose and Sunnyhills CDCs in her report to the board and community.

MUSD's Adrienne and Rose Barber


Sinnott Elementary educator Adrienne Barber and MUSD Middle College HS junior Rose Barber were honored by the Board of Education and District leadership  for authoring and illustrating a published children's book.

Sinnott elementary academic team


Sinnott Elementary School academic team was recognized by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for participation and success in the Khanathalon. Sinnott finished first in the Math Maestros competition

Spangler elementary academic team


Spangler Elementary School academic team was recognized by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for participation and success in the Khanathalon. Spangler placed third in the Math Maestros competition

Weller elementary academic team


Weller Elementary School academic team was recognized by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for participation and success in the Khanathalon. Weller took fourth in the Math Maestros competition

Highlights

L&D, Business Services teams share LCAP Mid-Year Update

Priti Johari, Executive Director, Learning and Innovation, and Trang Vo, Director, Business Services, along with additional LCAP committee members, shared the mid-year outcome date related to metrics identified in the current LCAP and mid-year expenditure and implementation data on all actions identified in the current LCAP.

MetroEd shares update on programs, services to MUSD students

MetroEd Superintendent Erin O'Neill provided an update on their program, their support of our students, and future plans for the Joint Powers Agreement. Thirty-two MUSD students are enrolled in MetroEd this school year.

MUSD ratifies new agreement with teachers' union for cultural observances

MUSD and the Milpitas Teachers Union agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cultural observances. Several educators voiced their concerns about the previous policy and commended the new agreement.

MUSD welcomes Tutass to team


Jennifer Tutass, coming via Fremont Unified School District, was announced as the district's new Program Manager of Inclusion to replace Michelle Sherer who is now the Director of Special Education. This position is integral to supporting staff with strategies that make it possible for learners with special needs to be served in the general education classroom. "As a school administrator and special education teacher for over 15 years, I have dedicated my career to ensuring that every student regardless of ability feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed," she shared.
