A new crew is aboard Tazzarin as shown in the photo above; please note the current crew is in the bottom row of the photo, not the top row of antlered animals.
My brother, Bob, arrived half an hour before midnight last night. He is a welcome and capable crew for the remaining portion of this voyage. We grew up together, along with our sister, Isabel, cruising the coast of New England and the Canadian Maritimes with our parents. Having him aboard brings back memories of those wondrous times exploring as a family under sail.
This morning we reassessed the weather. Idalia had barely budged and the wind gusted through the night, along with heavy mist and rain. The morning forecast reflected the slow movement of the low pressure system. Winds of up to 30 knots with seas of 3 to 4 meters were due to last most of the day. As I write, the weather has changed little. We made the prudent decision to stay here at Liscombe Lodge with the wind whistling in the rigging, along with the fury creatures in that top photo. We have tinkered with a couple boat projects and spent some of the day reading in the cabin.
Our plan now is to depart early tomorrow. We hope to make Halifax in two days, stopping for the night somewhere between here and there. We then aim to head to Lunenburg for a night. By Sunday we hope to depart for the offshore passage back to Manchester, MA. Early weather models suggest that early next week the winds will be more favorable for the offshore passage. It is about 325 nautical milesnfrom Lunenburg to Manchester.
