Ministering exorcism can reflect a quality of character. Ask Geoffrey Lampe, one of the most important theologians you probably never heard of. Lampe was an Anglican priest who dedicated his life to theology and research. He was Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge from 1960-1970. One of his classic comments was on the role of deliverance after the apostolic age. Professor Lampe observed that exorcism was the dominant miracle of the early church. Not only was it normalized, Lampe taught that it authenticated an individual's authority, character, and doctrine. In other words, exorcism wasn't an exotic aberration; it was a test by which Christians in the first centuries A.D. gauged the worthiness of leadership. Success with exorcism was an entree to validation in the Body of Christ.

In American Christianity today, saying that you do deliverance often evokes upturned eyebrows and skeptical glances. That is neither biblically nor historically justifiable. Such reactions stem from modern prejudices introduced by Bible teachers of the early 20th century, enforced by politically-correct Christianity. Those who oppose the miraculous, particularly exorcism, have every right to think that way. What they must not do is claim that contrary beliefs and practices, such as those of this ministry, are unbiblical.
