BOB FRIEND TO RETIRE...AGAIN.
After forty-five years as a priest (six and a half of them here at St. James’s), Bob has shared his plans to step down as pastoral associate. His last day will be Sunday, January 30. Thereafter, Bob and Susan can be found worshiping in the pews.
“This is the last time. Third time’s the charm.”
We want to thank Bob for his work as a pastoral presence for so many parishioners, especially walking with families at the end of a loved one’s life. He was also an effective leader of worship and preacher on Sunday mornings. His spirituality touched the hearts of many in his time with us. Having retired from various positions twice before, Bob has declared, “This is the last time. The third time’s the charm.”
Thank you, Bob, for your good and faithful service.

No Nursery, Children's Chapel, or Sunday School
In light of the recent rise in Covid cases and out of an abundance of caution for our youngest members, we are temporarily closing the nursery, and will not be having Children’s Chapel during the 9:00 service. Sunday school is canceled too, but we may return to our typical children’s ministry programming by January 30, 2022.
Moving forward, please watch the eChimes for weekly updates about the nursery, Children’s Chapel and Sunday School.

We’re counting on YOU.
The 2022 St. James's Annual Meeting will be in church, in person. Next Sunday, January 30th, between the services, we’ll be holding this all-important meeting and the magic number is 165.
That’s the number required for a quorum. So please count yourself among our most committed members.
We’ll be voting on new Vestry members, receiving updates on our progress over the last year, and looking ahead too. Join us as we come together to move our church forward in 2022.

The 5 is now Eventide.
Starting January 30th
The contemporary service formerly known as the 5 o’clock service is back–and now it’s called Eventide. The new name is just that, a new name.
The service will remain as it’s been, casual, contemplative, contemporary, and intimate–and at 5 pm on Sundays through Palm Sunday. We encourage everyone who’s seeking something different to give this service a try…and invite your friends.

No Mardi Gras this year, but
we’re planning a big Spring event
After lengthy consideration by the Missions Committee, Vestry leadership, our development team and church leadership, it’s been decided that it wouldn’t be responsible to host our annual Mardi Gras party and fundraiser in person this year.
But looking ahead to a date later in the Spring, we’re planning a big event where we can all be together–assuming, of course, we can get together and socialize safely. We’re also planning to revive the St. James’s Picnic in the fall. So there’s a lot to look forward to.
To be clear, one of the church’s primary goals is to get us all back together. But unless we can do it responsibly, we’re always going to put the safety of the congregation first. Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding.

Our steeple-o-meter is almost full.
If you’ve been waiting to make your 2022 pledge, there’s never been a better time. You can be among the final few parishioners who gets us to our goal. Your gift will contribute to our unequaled music program, our generous outreach efforts, our amazing children & youth ministries, and to our robust and inspiring adult learning programs, among many other efforts undertaken by the church.
Please think about the qualities of St. James’s that have meaning in your life, then reflect on how important it is to support those things as we work to bring our congregation back together. Thank you in advance.

St. James's Giving Tree
A big Thank you to everyone who
gave to the Giving Tree during Advent and Christmas.
Our parish donated $6,500, an impressive act of generosity. The money was given to purchase gift cards for Christmas presents at Peter Paul.
Peter Paul Development Center is one of St. James's primary Outreach Ministries, and a long-time partner with the church.

There’s a New Sacred Ground Group
starting in February
There’s been a groundswell of interest for a new Sacred Ground group. So a new group is forming that will begin meeting in February via Zoom.
Sacred Ground is a powerful ten-part film and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. This series is especially designed to help white people talk about racism with other white people. Each small group walks together through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.
