The Voice of Quilting

my front yard
All I can say is that it is FINALLY SPRING ... and I am Happy
Happy ... Happy!!

You know me.. I am NOT fond of cold weather and the lovely trip to TX and AZ really had me ready for WARM once I got back to Virginia!

This is the view from my front porch. My neighbors John and Becky have a gorgeous Japanese Cherry tree and the amazing Forsythia hedge for me to look at.. Thank you guys!

You know me... I'm WORDY... did you notice? Do you mind?
No? OH GOOD because I have a LOT to share this week!

This INCREDIBLE coffee cup and uber cute card came from my buddy Jackie Kunkel (she was just on the radio show Monday)

She saw it.. sent me a "I'm thinking of you" photo on Facebook.. and then IT arrived in my mail... SWOON worthy!!

Yes.. my coffee budget is gigantic... it makes life more fun.. wink!

I have a fairly new obsession... that is what is super about quilting. We can find new things all the time (and no Jackie .. it is NOT paper piecing .. be sure you listen to the Monday show recording to hear about THAT) ... see the bottom of the newsletter to find out!

oh yea...keep reading... there is a new fabric line from me being shown right now for your shops to buy!

Has this ever happened to you?

Gregg (the shipping Department) asked 'why' I was making such a complicated quilt for myself (it has a lot of parts...).. I said because it's CUTE!

He said... I hope Mt. Everest doesn't become cute

medallion magic

These blocks were made in my last "Medallion Magic" workshop. I teach some different ways to make multiple Half Square Triangles without a special too (LOVE THAT!)

And most people make the center medallion block AND lock in their fabric choices. I show you ways to audition and create a fantastic color palette to work into this style quilt.

I Have you been to a class? Send me a photo of your TOP! (see.. you don't need to quilt it to show me.. wink!)

Would you like to take a class with me?  Have your quild, favorite quilt show, or quilt shop contact me.

I teach Medallion quilts, fusible applique by machine (learn ALL my secrets), using up your scraps and my most popular workshop to break you out is "Wild and Free".  My workshops are friendly, casual and ALL about loving what you do!

Ready Set Sew!
sew along
Since the beginning of the year I've have a lot of you ask to do my Brambleberry Friends as a sew along. Guess what? I think the time has come!   This quilt is in my book "New Ideas for Applique". Along with a second color wasy AND many other projects that use the images.

My plan is to start in the Middle of April with the Dragonfly block, as that is the 'April' Block.  If you are one of those 'speedy people' go right ahead and do the others so you will be done at the end of the year. Otherwise this will be a gentle sew along that ends next spring.. perfect right?

book cover

I will post the monthly tip on my blog and point you to it here in the newsletter. Just like I am for my "Red Apple Lane" block of the month CLICK HERE for that info

I think we might kick off this sew along with something extra special .. so be sure you are ready!

When is a Traffic Jam GREAT? When it uses up scraps!
traffic jam
I'm including the final Traffic Jam pattern again... just in case you missed opening your newsletter last time!! Many of you beat me to the finish ... and your quilts are smokin!!! What fun to see them.   Mine is still being worked on... I'm a bit focused on the NEW FABRIC (see above)

The Quilts are bu Cathy Killiany with the blue sashing.  Karen McCaffrey with the yellow sashing. And
Karen Lieberman pink sashing. Karen has finished that one and made more! The 'parts' of a quilt are mine all mine...

This will eventually be on my free pattern page.. where you can find a ton of things right now,
My NEW Obsession
my obsession

The BEST thing about being a quilter is that we can find new obsessions... serious new love. Be it a technique, a style of fabric or some new tool or technique. For me I've been intrigued by CHARM PACKS lately!
Thecharmy are a bit addictive.. a set of 40 squares all cut 5".  I use them a lot when I am designing. I like to have a charm pack of collections so I can see the whole fabric line and match colors to other fabrics I already have.

Then i have these swatches to work with...that have IMMENSE potential.. you can be SO MUCH MORE
Since they are the same size, if you pair them up with a solid or tonal, and make a whole quilt with JUST the HST.. your options are endless!

Lindsay of "The Cottage Mama"  and her Mom made this quilt using my "Eat your Fruits and Veggies" charm pack and a solid!  She is so great to let me share this with you.

Her mom did a tutorial on HST from Charm Packs HERE and you can see the final quilt post HERE

I have COTTON and BATIK Charm packs on my Webstore. BUY HERE

This quilt takes 3 charm packs and you will have some left over
I am so happy you are here! Don't wait until the next newsletter to visit.. you can see me every day at these places.....hugs!
