Bobby Rushed to the Hospital!
Bobby seen here on Monday, March 8, 2021 recovering nicely at
Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY
Bobby II Freedom, one of the most beloved and definitely the most famous horse at Equine Advocates, got sick on Friday and was rushed to the hospital. It appeared that he was showing signs of colic, but after undergoing tests, he was diagnosed with glandular ulcers. Bobby had also become increasingly lame, but popped a hoof abscess this morning at the hospital and is feeling very much better.
Since his rescue from a kill pen on June 25, 2010, we have been managing Bobby's degenerative foot issues due to the permanent damage that he sustained due to the lack of care and treatment by his former handlers during the time he worked as an urban carriage horse in New York City. He wears special shoes as he has multiple issues with both of his front feet not the least of which are his deep flexor tendons which were shown to be torn the first time he underwent an MRI following his rescue. When he became injured and could no longer work, he was dumped at a slaughter auction.

Bobby was rescued jointly by Equine Advocates and the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages and has been retired here at the sanctuary ever since. Every June 25th, we celebrate Bobby's "Re-Birth-Day" and this year will be no exception. There will be lots of carrot cake and carrots when we celebrate his 27th birthday in June!

ATTENTION NEW YORK STATE RESIDENTS!
Monty, a former Thoroughbred racehorse bred in New York State
was rescued from slaughter by Equine Advocates in 2010. He was one of three
NY-Breds saved that day. All three are permanent residents at Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary in Chatham, New York.
