Earlier this year, S.1442 sponsored by State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., passed in the New York State Senate which ends the slaughter of horses bred for racing in NYS and appropriates funding for the aftercare of retired racehorses. The bill passed with bi-partisan support. However, in order for it to become law, it now needs to pass in the NYS Assembly. Please call the office of Assembly Member Donna Lupardo, the Chair of the Assembly Agriculture Committee. Please ask her to bring bill #A4154 up for a vote in this Committee.
Here are her phone numbers:

Many of you know that Equine Advocates was founded more than 25 years ago because of the horse slaughter issue. While we are hopeful that the federal government may finally pass legislation to ban this repugnant and un-American practice over the next couple of years, this legislation in New York State, where we are located, would be a tremendous step in moving toward a federal ban. As most of you know, we have rescued numerous race horses over the years, most from slaughter. It would be a major victory for horses and for the organizations that are involved in rescuing and protecting race horses and all equines from the horror of horse slaughter. If you are a NYS resident, please take action today!
