Bobcat E-Envelope

September 22, 2022

Hi SPS Families,

Welcome to Fall! The weather is starting to change around here as we continue on with the school year!

If you are interested and have not registered your kid(s) for either the chess club or the computer coding club, please click on the links towards the bottom of this newsletter to sign up. Registration is due online by Monday.

We had a great turnout for our girls basketball games last night for our "pool party" theme! Come on out again tonight for another round of girls basketball, starting at 5:00 with our 5th grade team and then right after that game, our 8th grade team takes the court. Tonight's theme is "white out".

Next week's all-school mass will honor our local firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and city leaders as we celebrate the Feast Day of the Archangels. We are blessed to have our own "angels" watching over our towns and cities every day and we are so thankful for them and their service. The Mass will begin at 8:30 so feel free to join us!

The contractors have started the duct work in the cafeteria downstairs for the HVAC system that is going to be installed. Work like this will be completed this week and next week and then the "full" construction project will begin the first week of October. We will keep you updated with information and photos as we continue on with this project.

As always, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

SPS Teacher Wishlists

For the 2022-23 school year, we have encouraged our SPS teachers to set up individual teacher wish lists on Amazon. Each teacher’s wish list includes items and supplies that will make a difference in their classroom. Parents and other members of the community are encouraged to visit the SPS Teacher Wish Lists via Amazon and choose one or more items that they would like to contribute. Once an item is purchased, Amazon will ship the item directly to the teacher at SPS.

Don’t forget, if you place your order using AmazonSmile, Amazon may donate a portion of your purchase to St. Patricia. You will need to set your charity to St. Patricia. Visit below!

In the Classroom

Students in 5th grade are exploring the relationship between mass and volume. First they practiced finding volumes of solids and liquids using graduated cylinders and water displacement. Then they measured the mass of the solids to prove that the higher the volume of an object does not always mean the higher the mass.

Celebrate SPS Students

On Tuesday, our student leaders from the Junior Honors Society and Student Council were inducted into their respective roles during a ceremony held in the church. Both organizations required those wishing to be elected to a leadership role to prepare and give a speech to their peers. We are incredibly proud of all who presented and wish to congratulate the officers and all representatives for 2022-23!  Thank you for wanting to serve SPS!

Reminders

Virtus Training

As a reminder, Virtus training is mandatory for all wishing to volunteer at St. Patricia School. This program is required by the Archdiocese of Chicago. If you have any questions, please direct them to the school office. Thank you for your support!

Lunch Supervisors - Volunteer

Parents, we need your support! It is through your volunteering efforts that we are able to give our Teachers a well-deserved lunch break in the faculty lounge.

Lunch supervisors watch classes during lunch and recess. Each day a supervisor works 2 lunch periods, 11:20-11:55 am and 11:55 am- 12:30 pm. The supervisor earns $8.00 for the full lunch period. If you wish to use this as volunteer hours you will not be paid for the shift. You may volunteer to work as many days as you like, all are welcome.

VIRTUS training is required to volunteer. Volunteers will be asked to supervise wherever the need is for their chosen shift. We cannot guarantee you will be placed with your student. Thank you for support!
