Welcome to Spring term, where great things are sprouting up! Have a listen to the riotous verse of "Out of the Garden" by Anis Mojgani, sure to put you in the rhythm of Poetry Month. Dates & Deadlines
April Dates
April 9, 5 p.m.: Tuition is due, payable online or at 541-383-7229. This is also the deadline to drop a full-term class and receive a refund. You may drop a class using your COCC Bobcat Web account or by calling the Enrollment Services office at 541-383-7500. An instructor's signature is not required to drop a full-term class by this deadline. See the schedule for short-term class drop deadlines.

Commencement 2021: June 12 Drive-Thru Event
Congratulations graduates of 2020 and 2021! We are proud of your accomplishments and excited to celebrate you. For your safety and those around you, the ceremony will look a little different this year and will be a "drive-thru" celebration. The good news is you will still be able to walk across the stage! The Drive-Thru Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 12. Invitations will be emailed to eligible students' COCC email this month. Questions? Please email myprogress@cocc.edu.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
The COCC Foundation 2021-22 Scholarship process is open and offers nearly 400 scholarship awards totaling $1.7 million. The application deadline is July 1.

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week: March 30-April 5
There will be a Twitter Trivia Challenge hosted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse at noon on Friday, April 3. Use the hashtag #NDAFW. COCC has resources.
Pre-Register for the COVID-19 Vaccine!
All Oregonians age 16 and over are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination as of May 1, 2021
Deschutes County and St. Charles Health System recently launched a new pre-registration system for Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson county residents to sign up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at the mass vaccination clinic at the Deschutes Fair and Expo Center in Redmond, OR.

Individuals who pre-register will be contacted to schedule a vaccine appointment when they are eligible and vaccine supply is available. Appointments will be scheduled based on Oregon Health Authority eligibility criteria (pdf). Important: if you already filled out the Deschutes County Vaccination Interest Form from earlier this winter, you still need to pre-register using the button below:

Forum on Racism
SAVE THE DATE: April 19, 3 – 4:15 p.m. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted BILAPOC (Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other People of Color) communities. Join panelists from COCC's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Office of Student Life for this virtual forum on the pandemic and the systemic inequities it has laid bare. COCC president Dr. Laurie Chesley will provide opening remarks, followed by a panel discussion and audience q&a. Register and learn more.
Construction on Newport Ave. to Begin
Commute, Bus Stop Impacts
Bend campus commuters and bus riders, please note that storm water update construction along Newport Ave. will begin at the Ninth St. roundabout starting April 5 and will impact some bus stops and traffic will reroute to Portland Ave. Visit Cascades East Transit for details.

Take a peek at COCC's health care careers through a one-hour virtual discovery session. Nursing has three this month: April 14, 19 & 30. Allied Health has a discovery session on April 1. Exploring Early Learning
The annual Early Learning Conference, co-sponsored by COCC, is being held virtually from April 23-24, with prerecorded sessions beginning on April 14. The keynote speaker is Dr. Pedro Noguera, a distinguished professor of education at the University of Southern California.

Events: Poetry Month & Visiting Scholar Presentation
Oregon's Poet Laureate to Perform
Anis Mojgani, a two-time National Poetry Slam champion, winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam and Oregon's current poet laureate, is headlining National Poetry Month celebrations at COCC, with a free performance from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, to include a student-facilitated interview and a Q&A with the audience. Expanding Minds with a Bang
Big Bang theory research and the frontier of astrophysics are the topics of a COCC Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program event, titled "What Happened Before the Big Bang?" at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20. Student tickets are free at cocc.edu/foundation/vsp.
