Resolution No. 32-2026: Updates Recognition of Memorial Park and Replacement of Existing Plaque

City Council voted 5-0 to approve a new Memorial Park plaque that properly recognizes the park’s 1947 designation, honors veterans, especially those connected to World War II and the Boca Raton Army Air Field, and acknowledges the community members who helped bring renewed attention to the park’s history. A public ceremony will be held when the new plaque is installed.

Resolution No. 33-2026: Creation of Downtown Civic Engagement Task Force

City Council voted 3-1 to create the Downtown Civic Engagement Task Force, proposed by Mayor Andy Thomson. The task force will be appointed by Council and will have six months to gather community input related to the future of Memorial Park and the surrounding public spaces.

Resolution No. 26-2026: Boca Technology Center - Development of Regional Impact (DRI) Master Plan Amendment

City Council did not approve the request related to the Boca Technology Center DRI, which is the long-range development plan for the site. Council asked the applicant to return at a future date for additional review and consideration.

Resolution No. 28-2026 & 29-2026: Palm Beach International Academy at BRIC

City Council voted 4-0 to allow a small private school at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRIC) at 5000 T-Rex Avenue. Specifically, it would allow a 5,711-square-foot school for grades 6 through 12, with up to 50 students on site, inside an existing building on the property. Additionally, Resolution No. 29-2026 which proposed the site plan for the private school was also approved. It addressed the layout and operational details for how the school would function within the existing building

Ordinance No. 5779: Amendments to the Executive Employees' Retirement Plan (EERP)

City Council voted 4-0 to approve the update the City’s executive retirement plan to clarify how certain pension benefits are calculated and administered. According to the actuarial review, the changes are not expected to have a measurable financial impact on the plan.

Ordinance No. 5782: Ordinance to Amend the Fiscal Year 25-26 Budget Through the First Budget Amendment

City Council voted 4-0 to approve the City’s first budget amendment for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The update reflects approved employee pay changes, a correction to Fire Rescue salaries, two new positions, higher insurance costs, emergency repairs, and environmental projects, while also removing transfers that had already been recorded in the prior fiscal year.

Save Boca Citizens Petition

Council expressed a 4-1 consensus to continue considering revised versions of the proposed ordinance and charter amendment related to the sale, lease, or transfer of City-owned land. The goal is to clarify the language so it is clear, workable, and legally sound before moving forward. Staff was directed to prepare draft language for review at the April 18,2026 meeting.
