PRESENTATIONS & DISCUSSION

Boca Raton Festival of the Arts

Representatives from the Festival of the Arts presented a review of last year's event including engagement, attendance and overall economic impact.


Downtown Civic Engagement Task Force

City Council agreed to postpone further discussion on the Downtown Civic Engagement Task Force until after a consultant is selected for the Downtown Civic Area project and provides recommendations for community engagement.


Downtown Civic Area

Staff provided an update on the Request for Qualifications (RFQ)* for the Downtown Civic Area, which includes Memorial Park, as directed by City Council. The update included the proposed scope of work and timeline. City Council reached consensus to continue moving forward with the RFQ process to select a consultant to support community engagement, planning and design services.

CIMD Presentation

Staff provided an overview of the City’s Commercial Industrial Multifamily District (CIMD). The district was created after the passage of the Live Local Act and allows multifamily residential development in certain commercial and industrial areas, with affordable and workforce housing requirements.

COUNCIL ACTION

101 E. Palmetto Park Road DDRI IDA CRP-24-02

The applicant presented a request related to the redevelopment of an existing building at 101 E. Palmetto Park Road in Downtown Boca. The proposed project would repurpose the current building to include four residential units on the second floor, convert ground-floor space for restaurant use, add outdoor courtyard seating, and parking considerations connected to the proposed residential units and restaurant use. At the conclusion of the hearing, the applicant requested a postponement to further discuss the project with Council and better understand their concerns.


Ordinance No. 5784: Save Boca Ordinance

City Council passed Ordinance No. 5784, creating a new section of the City Code related to the protection of City-owned land. The ordinance requires voter approval before the City can sell, lease, or otherwise transfer City-owned land larger than one-half acre. It also includes limited exceptions so the City can continue routine operations, such as utility easements, City facilities and operations, existing nonprofit leases, and temporary recreational or community uses where the City keeps control of the land.


Resolution No. 35-2026: Save Boca Charter Amendment

City Council passed Resolution No. 35-2026, which places the proposed Save Boca Charter Amendment on the ballot for voter consideration at the next available election, no later than the March 2027 Uniform Municipal Election. The proposed amendment would require voter approval before the City could sell, lease, or otherwise transfer City-owned land larger than one-half acre, with limited exceptions.


Resolution No. 45-2026: Holiday Inn & Suites CIMD

City Council passed Resolution No. 45-2026, allowing the existing Holiday Inn & Suites at 701 NW 53rd Street to be converted into a 125-unit residential building under the City’s Commercial Industrial Multifamily District. The project includes affordable housing units, restaurant space with outdoor dining, three small retail spaces, and related site improvements.
