The Launch of the Continuity of Care in Breastfeeding Support:

A Blueprint for Communities

Developed with a public health lens, the Blueprint aims to increase local capacity to implement community-driven approaches to support chest/breastfeeding, centered on the needs of populations disproportionately impacted by structural barriers that lead to low rates of breastfeeding. Its goal is to ensure that chest/breastfeeding support services are continuous, accessible, and coordinated, and that community spaces are consistently supportive of chest/breastfeeding families. The Blueprint is intended for any local-level organization and individual that interacts with pregnant and postpartum families. August 24- 10AM PT

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss breastfeeding equity as a public health issue

2. Describe continuity of care

3. Present key recommendations and strategies to establish chest/breastfeeding Continuity of Care in the community

*The Blueprint launch event will kick-off an 8-part webinar series on chest/breastfeeding Continuity of Care, entitled #EveryStepoftheWay through the 1,000days. Continuing education credits (CMEs, CNEs, CECHs, CPHs, CEUs, CPEUs, CERPs) are pending approval.

Building on Campaigns with Conversations

Building on Campaigns with Conversations is a new approach to supporting caregivers to help overcome barriers to safe sleep and breastfeeding. It is part of a greater trend in public health promotion—utilizing an individualized approach that takes into account each family’s needs, beliefs, and the context of their lives. This training on the Conversations Approach is based on Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior and follows current recommendations from the American Academy for Pediatrics (AAP) for safe sleep and optimal breastfeeding for healthy infants.
