Alison Ward - Science & Sustainability Supervisor, Boise School District
Alison Ward has served students in the Boise School District for 17 years. During this time, she has worked as a Student Teacher (Boise High School, 2001-2002); and Science Teacher (Boise High School, 2006 to present). She currently serves as Boise High School’s Science Department Chair (2010 to present); member of the District’s Sustainability Committee and Subcommittee Chair; Director and Lead Teacher at the Downtown Boise Teaching Farm; Instructional Lead Team Member; and Green Schools National Network Presenter. She has demonstrated experience and expertise in working closely with school and district personnel to develop and implement effective science teaching strategies and quality science lab experiences for students.
In addition, Ms. Ward works as a Teaching Fellow as part of Boise State University’s Writing Project where she co-coordinates and instructs professional development for K-12 teachers in the new Idaho State Science Standards (2016 to present) and Project Based Learning (2017-2019). As part of this work, she has successfully worked collaboratively with the Idaho State Department of Education, Boise State Writing Project and the Idaho STEM Action Center.
She has also written exam questions for the Next Generation Science Strands and Advanced Placement Environmental Strands.
Ms. Ward received the Innovative Educator Award (2021); Environmental Educator of the Year (Secondary) Award, Idaho Environmental Education Association (2020); Master Educator, State of Idaho, (awarded 2019); Science Teacher of the Year Award, Region VII (NSTA, 2014); and Chemistry Teacher of the Year Award, Region IV (ACS, 2013).
Ms. Ward believes each and every student can learn if provided the appropriate support and resources to do so. She is committed to the District’s Strategic Plan Vision of preparing students for success beyond high school, in college, career and in life.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts from Boise State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Boise State University and Master of Arts degree in Education - Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University.
