Chynna Hirasaki, Administrator of Special Education
Ms. Hirasaki brings over 17 years of experience in education, including service as a teacher, mentor, and administrator at both the district and state level. She joins Boise School District from the Idaho State Department of Education, where she currently serves as the State Special Education Director. In that role, she oversees the state’s compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), manages federal grant distribution, and directs statewide monitoring to ensure high-quality services for students with disabilities. She also represents Idaho to the federal Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and plays a leading role in state initiatives related to MTSS, early literacy, and mentoring new special education leaders.
Previously, Ms. Hirasaki served as Director of Special Services for the Caldwell School District, where she provided direct support to over 1,100 students and led efforts to strengthen special education programs through compliance oversight, professional development, budget management, and collaborative planning. Her experience also includes service as Special Education Director for the Canyon-Owyhee School Service Agency (COSSA), where she worked with multiple rural districts to build shared resources and technical support networks.
A passionate advocate for equitable access and inclusive practices, Ms. Hirasaki is deeply committed to ensuring a comprehensive and seamless continuum of services for students with disabilities. She describes herself as a collaborative problem solver and servant leader who empowers educators, supports families, and centers student success in all aspects of her work.
Ms. Hirasaki holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Nazarene University, a Master’s degree in Special Education from Western Governors University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from BYU–Hawaii.
