Administrative Appointments

Boise, ID -- 03/13/2023 -- Boise School District is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments, effective July 1, 2023.

Nick Smith - Boise Area Director


Nick Smith is a dedicated, knowledgeable and effective education leader who has served Idaho's public school students in a variety of capacities since 2002. During his career in education, Mr. Smith has successfully served as:

  • Human Resources Director, Boise School District, 2016-2022
  • Principal, Lowell Elementary School, Boise School District, 2013-2016

During his career in the Boise School District, Mr. Smith built positive and effective relationships with District staff, students and families. He has demonstrated his commitment to the District’s Vision of preparing students for success in college, career and in life. While serving as Boise School District’s Director of Human Resources, Mr. Smith built a solid reputation for providing a high level of service to the District’s schools, students and staff members by implementing successful procedures that benefit the students we serve. 


In addition, Mr. Smith has extensive experience working with the Idaho Legislature and using his knowledge of state and national educational issues, including education policy and legislation, to improve Idaho’s public schools. 


Mr. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with both a Principal and Superintendent Endorsement.


Robb Thompson - Administrative Learning Coach

 

Robb Thompson has successfully served students in Idaho since 1995. Mr. Thompson is a dedicated and proven professional educator and administrator with a strong history of guiding schools to better teaching and learning that results in academic success for all levels of students. 


Mr. Thompson’s successful work experience includes the following:

As Boise School District’s Administrative Learning Coach, Mr. Thompson will support principals’ professional growth to increase the capacity of each principal to effectively lead change by implementing a student-centered learning model that is focused on improving outcomes for learners and creating more inclusive school cultures.   


Mr. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Minor in Communications from Gonzaga University, a Secondary Teaching Endorsement from Boise State University and a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Idaho.

Deborah Watts, Principal, Boise High School


Deborah Watts has served Boise District students since 1997. She is a strong instructional leader committed to a student-centered learning system which serves the needs of each student and supports the professional development of each staff member. 


Principal Watts successfully mentors and works with teachers, students, administrators and families to positively impact learning for all students.  During her educational career, she has worked as:



  • Principal, Riverglen Junior High School, Boise School District, 2015 to present
  • Educational Leadership Instructor, Boise State University, 2017 to present 
  • Principal, Trail Wind Elementary School, Boise School District, 2010-2015
  • Principal, Longfellow Elementary School, Boise School District, 2006-2010
  • Secondary teacher, head teacher and site administrator, Booth Memorial School, Boise School District, 1997-2006


Principal Watts is a strong instructional leader committed to developing a culture of student-focused learning that is aligned with the District’s strategic approach to improving the educational experience and opportunities for all learners.


She understands and is committed to the importance academics, athletics and activities play in the ability to successfully deliver an outstanding comprehensive educational experience and the belief that each and every student can and will learn when provided the proper resources, guidance and support.


Mrs. Watts is a proud Boise High School alum who is very excited to return to her alma mater. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History/Secondary Education from Boise State University and her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho.

Jeff Roberts, Principal, Fairmont Junior High School


Jeff Roberts has served students in the Boise School District since 1993. Principal Roberts is a dedicated, loyal, resourceful education professional with proven abilities in management, teaching and administration of policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment and ensure a culture that encourages continuous improvement for teachers, coaches and students. 


During his public school career Mr. Roberts has worked as:

In addition, Mr. Roberts served in the U.S. Army, Idaho Army National Guard (2007-2019), deployed to Iraq and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Award for his military service.  


Principal Roberts is committed to a student-centered learning approach with a core foundational belief that all students can and will learn when provided the necessary support, resources and guidance. Principal Roberts practices open communication with colleagues, students, parents and the community and is committed to the District's Vision of preparing students for college, career and global citizenship.  


Mr. Roberts has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies Education from Northwest Nazarene University, a Master of Arts Degree in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Idaho.
