Boise School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Randy Lance has been appointed to serve as the district’s Science and Health Supervisor, effective at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Dr. Lance brings a unique combination of science education expertise and PreK-12 administrative leadership, making him well-suited to lead the district’s efforts in advancing science and health instruction. Since the 2022-2023 school year, he has served as principal of Amity Elementary School, where he has played a critical role in coordinating and implementing educational initiatives, collaborating with administrators, interdisciplinary teams, and developing strategies to improve student outcomes. His ability to manage multiple projects, ensure accurate data collection, and foster instructional alignment will be key assets in his new role.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lance has remained deeply committed to student-centered learning, curriculum development, and instructional innovation. His journey began in 1997 as a physical science and biology teacher at Midland Freshman High School in Texas. He later taught Advanced Placement (AP) Biology and Chemistry at Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada before spending a decade at Mountain View High School in the West Ada School District, where he taught AP and Honors Biology.

Dr. Lance joined the Boise School District in 2014, serving as an assistant principal at Timberline High School before transitioning to principal of Hillside Junior High School in 2019. In addition to his K-12 leadership, he has mentored future educators as an adjunct faculty member at Northwest Nazarene University and has contributed to national discussions in science education as a peer reviewer for The Science Teacher, a respected journal for secondary science educators.

Dr. Lance’s contributions to science education have earned him multiple grants and recognitions. He has been nominated for both the Governor’s Industry Award for Notable Teaching in Science (GIANTS) and the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. His commitment to excellence in STEM education is further demonstrated by his success in securing funding for innovative classroom projects, supporting student research, and enhancing science instruction.

Dr. Lance is particularly passionate about supporting the district’s strategic plan, which focuses on delivering an exceptional, aligned PreK-12 curriculum that prepares students for success in the workforce, higher education, and citizenship in the 21st century. He is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the district’s ongoing Clarity for Learning initiative, working alongside teachers and administrators to enhance science education, project coordination, and student engagement.

Dr. Lance holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Idaho State University (1996). He earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (2006), a Master of Educational Leadership (2008), and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Educational Leadership (2013) from Boise State University.
