South & Lowell Pool Open Houses
The Boise Parks and Recreation Department is hosting open houses at South and Lowell Pools to gather additional community input on the future of the two recreation facilities. These workshop style events are part of the next phase of public outreach and engagement related to the aging above ground pools.

An open house is planned at each pool site during the month of April:
  • South Pool Open House , Tuesday, April 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. – 921 S Shoshone Street
  • Lowell Pool Open House, Thursday, April 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. – 1601 N 28th Street

Residents are encouraged to stop by to learn more about the current condition of the pools, talk with the City of Boise’s project team and view initial community survey results from outreach conducted in March.

There will be additional opportunities at the open houses for adults, kids and teens to provide input on the future of these two recreation amenities. Department staff plan to open the doors at each pool to allow the community to tour the inside. The Boise City Department of Arts & History will also be on hand to gather information on potential primary source materials, including personal recollections, historical records, photographs, and documents related to the two amenities, for inclusion in the Boise City Archives.

South and Lowell Pools were designed by architect Wesley Bintz and constructed around 1953 by Jordan and Sons of Boise. Recent assessments outline a variety of deficiencies with the pools and recommend significant steps to bring the facilities up to safety and accessibility standards. The two pools closed in 2020 due to COVID-19 and remain closed as next steps are determined.

For additional background information on the pools, to view facility photos and learn more about this project, visit the city’s website.
