Celebrating Early Learning
|
|
Boise School District is committed to providing a high-quality education delivered by our highly-qualified and passionate educators. With that in mind, in recognition of this year's National Week of the Young Child Boise School District is shining the light on some of our early learning programs. During the Boise School Board's April 10th Board meeting, trustees received an early learning program presentation, and watched the following video about our Pre-K program at Hawthorne Elementary School and Madison Early Childhood Center program.

Science Teacher Named Idaho's Finalist for National STEM Award
|
|
Kameron Yeggy, Science Teacher, Timberline High School, has been recognized as an Idaho finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Mr. Yeggy will be celebrated on August 3, 2023 at the Idaho Council of Teachers of Mathematics/Idaho Science Teaching Association Annual STEM Conference in Boise. Each year the Idaho PAEMST selection committee nominates up to three finalists in each award category, Mathematic and Science. The nominees are then submitted to a national selection committee made up of K-12 teachers, administrators, university professors and STEM education researchers who will select the PAEMST awardees at the national level.

Career Technical Education Instructor Making News

|
Norm Markham (pictured above) is a top-notch Collision Repair Instructor at the Dennis Technical Education Center. Mr. Markham loves to share his passion for careers in the auto body industry with his students. Now he's sharing that love on a national stage. Mr. Markham was recently interviewed for an article written for the Body Shop Business national trade website. In the article, Mr. Markham talks about how his career started and how the collision repair industry is a viable career path for his students.

April Red & Golden Apple Awards
Board Recognizes Outstanding Staff Members
|
|
Members of the Boise School Board recognized two deserving District staff members during the regularly scheduled monthly Board meeting held on April 10, 2023. Each month the Board recognizes deserving staff members with the Red Apple Award (certified staff members) and the Golden Apple Award (classified staff members).
For April, the award recipients were Jerod Morehouse, Math Teacher, Timberline High School (Red Apple Award); and Stacy Garey, Administrative Assistant, Amity Elementary School (Golden Apple Award). Watch the following video to learn more.

Annual Plant Sales to Benefit Horticulture Programs

Each year, students enrolled in the Boise School District's Horticulture programs hold annual plant sales to showcase their skills and talents in raising healthy plants, with the proceeds collected going to support their respective school's Horticulture program. You're Invited to Listen to Student Voices

|
On April 20th, the Timberline High School Tree Club will present Student Voices: The Future We Want! at the Timberline High School Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Timberline TREE Club is a group of highly motivated students committed to raising awareness about the issues that matter the most to them. By thinking globally and acting locally, TREE Club members have been at the heart of Timberline's sustainability initiatives and have proven to be instrumental in the implementation process of meaningful change within the Boise School District.

Annual Día de los Niños 2023
|
|
Attention Boise School District families: The Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) is partnering with local libraries and organizations to bring its annual Día de los Niños event to the Treasure Valley. You are invited to attend this special event, which will celebrate children, families, and literacy. The event will take place at Cecil D. Andrus Park (across from the Statehouse, downtown Boise) on Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 12 to 4 p.m. This fun, free event offers entertainment, information, and resources helpful to parents of children of all ages.
El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), often known as Día, is a celebration of children, families, and reading that culminates every year on April 30.
Celebrated since 1925 throughout Mexico, Día emphasizes the importance of literacy and reading fun for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds through bilingual storytimes, family literacy fairs, community events, and other programs that encourage family reading and increased understanding of other cultures.

Registration for the Summer Sessions of Driver Education is now open.
- All classes are held at Fairmont Junior High.
- First Session dates: June 01 - June 29
- Second Session dates: July 06 - August 03

Boise School District offers a wide variety of summer school programs for students to enhance their educational experiences. Our summer programs range from elementary to high school. Registration begins for Summer 2023 programs in late March, 2023. Earth Day Electronics Drive
|
|
Boise School District is pleased to announce a new Earth Week opportunity to help our schools and families safely recycle electronic waste (old phones, laptops, drives, and so on), keeping it out of our landfill and reclaiming valuable metals in the process. Bring your unwanted computers and electronics to your school's front office between April 17th and 19th during school hours. Please bring only items that are listed on the left side of the following flyer:

Results from Spring PowerDown Challenge

In an effort to be good stewards of our energy resources, Boise Schools participated in the Spring 2023 Powerdown Challenge. The results are now in as indicated below. A special thank you to Idaho Power for helping track the energy usage data, to our students and teachers who "unplugged" before spring break, and to our District's Facilities & Operations Team that works to maintain and schedule our energy usage in our buildings.

Boise Plogging Invitation
|
|
Members of the general public are invited to participate in plogging. What is plogging? It's running for exercise and picking up trash you find along the way. It's good for the body, mind, soul, and environment! Plogging started in Sweden but is making its way to the U.S.
