Director’s Note
Dear Senior Center Friends,
If April showers bring May flowers, what does April flurries bring?
May is Older Americans Month! Every year the Administration for Community Living selects a theme for the year. This year’s theme is “Communities of Strength.” I think this is very fitting. We have had to weather a lot as a community but we have to make the most of what we have – and what we have is plentiful in this beautiful town.
Bring on the flowers!
Stay Safe,
Carrie

The Brand New Chore Program!
Need some help around the house or want to volunteer around town? Bolton Senior and Social Services is excited to announce a partnership with a local non-profit organization called UR Community Cares. UR Community Cares matches community members with local volunteers for assistance with various tasks called Community Deeds. Community members are adults age 70+ or any adults with physical mobility challenges. Volunteers can be adults of all ages, community groups, or teens age 15-17 with parental supervision. The program is free for all participants. Sign up at www.URCommunityCares.org, or call for staff to assist you by telephone.
Please note: all participants are subject to a background check and must comply with social distancing guidelines. For more information, call 860-647-9196.
UR Community Cares – What’s It Like?
We are so happy many of you have already signed up for UR Community Cares and had a good experience.
In case you are a little uncertain about how it works, here is an example of what it was like for our first participant. We’ll call her Mrs. Jane Doe.
Mrs. Doe is not a computer user so when she heard about the program she called Senior Center staff member Karen. Karen asked her the questions on the website over the phone. Mrs. Doe’s information was submitted for a background check. In about two days, Karen received an email telling her that Mrs. Doe was approved as a community member. Karen called Mrs. Doe to tell her she was ready to start requesting community deeds whenever she had one in mind.
In this case, Mrs. Doe requested help with picking up sticks in her yard. Karen entered the information for the community deed. A volunteer accepted the deed and they arranged a date that worked for both of them and for the weather. The volunteer arrived and using the yard tools Mrs. Doe put outside for him, he was able to accomplish all she needed.
To finalize the community deed, Mrs. Doe called Karen back to let her know it was completed and gave feedback and a star rating about the quality of her volunteer. Now she will be able to request any further tasks in the future as they arise.
We hope this helps you see how easy the process is to start and to request assistance. Remember, if you are a computer user you can sign up completely independently. And if you are interested in volunteering, the sign up is just as straight forward.
We hope you enjoy our new program and all the benefits it brings to our town.
