Director’s Note
Dear Senior Center Friends,
You may have had a chance to hear the Governor speak on Monday about the next phase of vaccinations starting next week. This phase 1B will definitely include adults over the age of 75, and other groups have been considered for inclusion. Now, I know that so many of you at Bolton Senior Center like to tell me that you just happen to be celebrating your 39th birthday this year, so I guess that doesn’t apply to you. But just in case you have told a small fib about the number of candles you need, this information may be of great interest to you or a loved one. The staff at Bolton Senior Center will do our very best to communicate the most updated information.
The State of CT has not yet released all of the information at the time of this writing. But here is what we do know so far. The Governor has made it very clear that everyone will have an appointment scheduled so you will know exactly when and where you need to go. There will be both a telephone and online scheduling option but the exact details have not yet been released. Also, many of you will receive a phone call from a healthcare provider to help you schedule. A very important question to ask is how will you know if this is a scam call? This is an entirely free process, and as the Governor said, if anyone asks you for any money, hang up the phone. It was also stated that individuals are requested to NOT call their healthcare provider directly. As we get more specific information we will be happy to share and yes, we will also be providing transportation for those who need it.
Another frequently asked question has been about the tax preparation program. Ordinarily, we would be well into scheduling appointments by now. But this is not an ordinary year! More information will be coming shortly about the options available to you. We can assure you that you haven’t missed out!
I know I am once again asking for your patience as we move forward this winter and I also want to again encourage you to take as many precautions as you can. Our positive case numbers in Bolton have risen sharply the last few weeks and this is very devastating to see in our small town. We want you and your family to remain healthy!
Stay safe,
Carrie
Reminder: Town Offices are closed on Monday, January 18

A Message from the Eastern Highlands Health District:
- Yes. Starting next week, residents age 75+ will be able to receive the COVID vaccination.
- It will be appointment-based and free.
- The State of CT will be releasing more information with details on how to schedule an appointment, either online or by phone sometime this week.
- At that time, the Governor’s office plans to give out a website for those who qualify to visit and a phone number to call to help set up an appointment if you’re able to do it online.
-
Updated information can be found at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/COVID-19-Vaccination---75-and-older
- Most vaccinations will occur in public clinics around the state, not in a doctor’s office.
- We ask all to be patient. The vaccination campaign will take some time. Appointments will not be readily available, particularly in the early weeks of this campaign.
-
For information about which phase we are in and who is eligible for the vaccine in each phase go to: https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/covid-19%20vaccinations

A Poem for Peace
The last year has been a constant stream of anxiety and stress! Below is a poem that might distract us from the chaos of this world for a little!
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
