Measure Q, the Long Beach Unified School District’s health, safety and student achievement bond measure, was approved by local voters by a yes vote of 60.72%, according to election results certified this week. The measure will provide LBUSD $1.7 billion for school renovations and the possibility of state matching funds totaling millions of dollars.

The plan, unveiled at a town hall event held at Poly on Nov. 15, includes renovations scheduled in LBUSD’s current school modernization timeline and planned upgrades under the District’s new Measure Q bond.

The pilot is the first major initiative under LBUSD’s new Green School Energy and Sustainability Policy. Sustainable landscaping will also take root at two other pilot schools.
