Our marketing efforts in economic development are paying great dividends for our region in the heart of Southwest Florida. We are fielding half a dozen calls each week for site selection services in the Bonita Springs and Estero markets. We had a successful marketing trip to New York City to the Medical Manufacturing Trade Show with professionals from throughout the region including both Lee and Collier County economic development organizations. READ MORE

CALL TO ACTION - Plan for Proper Infrastructure in Bonita Springs!
 
As an advocate for planning and data collection to help us manage the future infrastructure needs of our community, the Bonita Springs Estero EDC is asking for your help! Please attend the Lee County MPO meeting on Friday, August 22nd at 9:00 a.m. to speak in favor of moving forward with the U.S. 41 and Bonita Beach Road intersection traffic study. We do not want a flyover but are in favor of the study being conducted as a future management and safety plan for our region.

STATE RELEASES SCHOOL GRADES: 

 

The Florida Department of Education released the school grades for the 2013-2014 school year for elementary and middle schools. Among Lee County District schools, 40% earned a rating of A in the State Accountability system, compared to just 36% state-wide. Seventy percent of District schools increased or maintained their grade. Twenty Lee County schools improved their grade by at least one letter, while six Lee County schools increased their grade by two letters. READ MORE

FLORIDA RANKED #6 FASTEST GROWING ECONOMY

The Business Insider ranked each state based on how eight economic measures have increased or decreased in recent years: the unemployment rate, the number of non-farm payroll jobs, gross domestic product, average wages, the working age (18-64) population, value of international exports, house prices, and auto sales.

NAPLES LISTED #1: Forbes' Best Cities For Future Job Growth List

 

Florida has crawled back from the depths of the recession and the employment outlook is bright, particularly for the retirement enclaves in the southern part of the state. Leading the way is Naples, which is expected to have the fastest job growth rate among the 200 largest metro areas with an annual rate of 4.1% through 2016, according to Moody's Analytics. FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION RECOGNIZES RSW
 
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) honored the Southwest Florida International Airport with the 2014 Commercial Service Airport Project for its Apron Expansion and Associated Taxiways project. This award was presented to the Lee County Port Authority, at the Florida Airports Council Annual Conference held in Jacksonville, FL. READ MORE

HORIZON COUNCIL AND FGCU RELEASE REPORT ON SMALL BUSINESS GROWTH
 
The Horizon Council and Florida Gulf Coast University have released the results of their FGCU Barriers to Small Business Growth Survey. The purpose of the study was to better understand the factors small businesses need to continuously grow in Lee County. VIEW RESULTS

TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL INDUSTRY REPORT: 

Preliminary May bedtax up double-digits over last year. The preliminary resort tax collected for May 2014 was $1,995,140, a 16.8% increase over May 2013. READ MORE

JULY SOUTHWEST FLORIDA REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATOR REPORT: 
Unemployment Rates Steadily Decreasing
 
The most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics Establishment survey showed that national non-farm payroll employment increased by 288,000 jobs for the month. The June employment increases included 67,000 jobs in professional and business services, 40,200 in retail trade, 39,000 in leisure and hospitality, 38,000 in education and health services, 26,000 in government, 17,000 in financial activities, 16,600 in transportation and warehousing, 16,000 in manufacturing, 15,100 in wholesale trade, 9,000 in media, and 6,000 in construction. READ MORE courtesy of the Florida Gulf Coast University Regional Economic Research Institute.
