This week I'd to shine a light on the blossoming tech sector in Southwest Florida.  Each week I meet another young software, web, or IT development company looking to figure out how to connect with other area tech entrepreneurs.  These folks are creating local jobs and looking for talented young employees to fill them.  They have a hard time finding each other because we are so spread out geographically. Without one large building or urban corridor in which congregate they may fly under the radar, but it doesn't mean they aren't here.  READ MORE

MORE THAN ONE MILLION JOBS AND $1 BILLION IN TAX CUTS IN FLORIDA

Governor Rick Scott a nnounced that  Florida businesses created 36,000 private-sector jobs in January, continuing Florida's impressive job-creation streak. Since December 2010, 1,060,800 private-sector jobs have been created in Florida. In January, Florida's unemployment rate was 5.0 percent, the lowest in eight years. Governor Scott made the announcement on his "Million, Billion Jobs Victory Tour" at Storm Smart Industries in Fort Myers to celebrate over one million jobs created since December 2010 and over $1 billion in tax cuts over the last two years.   READ MORE

FEBRUARY 2016 ECONOMIC INDICATOR REPORT

HIGHLIGHTS: Southwest Florida's economy continued to exhibit strong growth in many areas, including a 6-percent increase in seasonally-adjusted regional taxable sales in November 2015 over November 2014. Passenger activity for the three Southwest Florida airports was 10 percent higher in December 2015 than December 2014. Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Hendry counties recorded increases in single-family building permits in January 2016 compared to January 2015.  READ MORE   courtesy of the Florida Gulf Coast University Regional Economic Research Institute.
