FLORIDA RANKED #2 BEST STATES FOR BUSINESS
 

The state of Florida ranks second in the nation for business according to a recent study from ChiefExecutive.net. The business website and magazine surveyed 500 CEOs across the U.S. for the 10th annual survey, which asks CEOs their views of the best and worst states for business. READ MORE.

The City of Bonita Springs permitting process was featured as a best practice in The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity's (DEO) April- June 2014 newsletter, in the Policy Spotlight sectionPromoting economic opportunities for all Floridians through successful workforce, community, and economic development strategies, the Florida DEO highlights local governments that understand how policy affects the economy and have taken positive action in recent years.  READ MORE.

APRIL SOUTHWEST FLORIDA REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATOR REPORT: Regional Unemployment Rate Lower than Nation
 

The nation is continuing its economic recovery and Southwest Florida has benefited from a strong winter season. Seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates in March 2014 showed noticeable improvement compared to March 2013. The Florida unemployment rate, at 6.3 percent, is lower than the national unemployment rate of 6.7 percent. FLORIDA EXPERTNET LAUNCHES THE INNOVATION EXCHANGE: Matching Businesses with University Talent & Resources

 

Florida ExpertNet, a publicly funded statewide portal of applied research expertise in Florida's universities, is getting an upgrade with the introduction of its Innovation Exchange.
The Exchange is a free centralized resource to aid in connecting business, industry, and economic development organizations with university research faculty, funded projects, centers, technologies, and speakers.

BONITA SPRINGS RANKED #2: Top 16 Small Cities in Florida
 
"Tourists come to the town to enjoy the areas popular with residents, including Barefoot Beach Preserve Park, Little Hickory Island Beach Park, and Bonita Beach Park. Barefoot Beach Park encompasses 342 acres and has been preserved as one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on the western coast of Florida." READ MORE.

STRONG HIRING SEEN IN SW FLORIDA
 
Florida's Department of Economic Opportunity reported strong hiring in retail stores, resorts and professional offices in March, pushing unemployment lower across most of Southwest Florida. READ MORE.

GOVERNOR SCOTT SIGNS VILLAGE OF ESTERO BILL
 
Governor Rick Scott signed HB 1373 late on Tuesday, May 13th, which will allow the residents of Estero the opportunity to vote to make Estero the incorporated Village of Estero. READ MORE.

SWFL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REPORTS MARCH TRAFFIC
 
"March marked the highest single month for passenger traffic in our 31-year history, culminating in a record-breaking first quarter at RSW," said Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Lee County Port Authority. The traffic leader in March was Southwest Airlines with 246,451 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta (243,177), JetBlue (119,242), United (115,270) and US Airways (112,926). READ MORE.
