"Real, class driven, suspenseful. The Intern is part John Grisham, part Lisa Gardner. Character driven suspense that kept me up reading far too late."
-Robert Dugoni
A young Harvard law student falls under the spell of a charismatic judge in this timely and thrilling novel about class, ambition, family, and murder.

Madison Rivera lands the internship of her dreams working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret that could destroy her career. Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case.

When Danny goes missing after accusing the judge of corruption, Madison’s quest for answers brings her deep into the judge’s glamorous world. Is Kathryn Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? Is she trying to help Madison or use her as a pawn? And why is somebody trying to kill her?

As the two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, will they save each other, or will betrayal leave one of them dead?
Dear Reader,

They say all novels are autobiographies, and The Intern was a return to roots for me: I’m a lawyer by training, like Madison and Judge Conroy. The Intern is a blend of classic legal thriller—high stakes, propulsive plot, glamorous settings—with the emotional complexity of a psychological thriller. It features two complicated, ambitious women with secrets to hide who have to decide whether to be enemies or allies, villains or heroes. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it!

All my best,

Michele
Book Club Menu
In The Intern, Madison Rivera is intent on getting answers about her missing brother, and agrees to house-sit while Judge Conroy disappears on a mysterious trip. Madison prepares a delicious meal to serve upon the judge's return: a charcuterie plate, fettuccine in lemon cream sauce, and a simple green salad with homemade vinaigrette. As the two women sit down to dinner in the judge’s fabulous townhouse in Boston's Back Bay. Judge Conroy pulls a gun and places it on the beautifully set table. The food can’t hide the fact that these two women are playing a deadly cat-and-mouse game. The high stakes and haute setting of this splashy legal thriller pair well with an elegant Chardonnay.
