October V.I.B...
by Juan Gabriel Vasquez

"Columbian political cartoonist Javier Mallarino is at the pinnacle of his 40 year career. He’s known as the conscience of a nation, and holds the power to influence national events and make or break political fortunes. A chance encounter with a young woman he knew when she was a child triggers a memory of an event that occurred many years earlier, an event so repugnant to him that his reactive cartoon leads to a death. Now he wonders if his eyes and heart had deceived him. The existential crisis that follows is as gripping as a thriller and as emotionally powerful as one of my all-time favorites, Julian Barnes’s The Sense of an Ending." --  Cathy Langer, director of buying

by Lisi Harrison

"Having grown up reading The Clique series, I could not contain my excitement when I found out Lisi Harrison is publishing an adult novel. The Dirty Book Club was everything I imagined it would be - funny, touching and relatable. The story follows M.J. Stark who moves from New York to California after a betrayal from her boss. Living with her boyfriend in a new place, she doesn't have any female friendships. That is until her neighbor, Gloria, embarks for Paris and leaves behind the legacy of The Dirty Book Club to M.J. and three other women. Through this book club M.J. slowly starts to develop the close bonds she needs to be at peace with her life. The characters are in their mid-thirties, a bit older than myself, but the way these women were depicted, the way they spoke, and the way they thought about life comforted me as I prepare to move further into adulthood. I could see myself in them, especially M.J., and I'm so glad that Lisi Harrison is the one who could provide me with such a story. The Dirty Book Club is one of my favorite books so far this year." -- Ashley Lyons, Marketing Communications Associate

by Gabrielle Zevin

"Young Jane Young is my new favorite book. Gabrielle Zevin is an outstanding writer, who writes not only with flair and humor, but gets to the essential of what it means to be an authentic woman and person. She tells  our  story through the quirky stories of four women; Aviva, Rachael, Jane, Ruby, and Embeth - yes; that is a list of  four  women! In the telling of their stories, Zevin asks if it's possible in today's culture to reinvent ourselves and remain who we are at our core. I loved the book---you will, too!" -- Kathy Coble, Colfax retail manager

by Ben Blum

"BRILLIANT DEBUT ALERT! In Ranger Games, Colorado author, Ben Blum, tries to understand why his straight-laced cousin, (and US Army Ranger) Alex Blum would become involved in a bank robbery just before his first deployment to Iraq. As he tries to find answers for his family, Blum questions the information he’s gathering and the compassion towards his cousin seeps through Blum’s deliberations. Ranger Games paints an intense picture of the psyche of an army ranger and the emotional and societal factors that could influence someone like Alex to assist in a violent crime. An insightful and important book!" -- Stephanie Coleman, Lead Book Buyer
