Book Club News: July Issue
Greetings!

This month, we're highlighting popular, funny and otherwise notable book club names that members shared through our annual survey. Thanks to all who participated, and we hope anyone currently looking to name their club finds this helpful!

I'm also excited to bring you an interview with La Rhonda Crosby-Johnson of the Marcus Book Club in Oakland, California, a group with an impressive 25-year history.

Plus, we're revisiting last year's discussion of Lolá Ákínmádé Åkerström's In Every Mirror She's Black now that it's released in paperback, and invite you to check out our lineup of discussions opening this fall.

Very best,

Davina

Last year, BookBrowse's book club discussed In Every Mirror She's Black by Lolá Ákínmádé Åkerström. It received many positive comments, so we're revisiting it now that it's available in paperback.
In Every Mirror She's Black
by Lolá Ákínmádé Åkerström
From the Jacket

Three Black women are linked in unexpected ways to the same influential white man in Stockholm as they build their new lives in the most open society run by the most private people.

From the Discussion

"I enjoyed this book. It appealed to me on the story level, the emotional level, and the sentence level. It is a portrait of a particular culture and Black women’s experience in this culture. I liked that it spoke truth to the experience; there is extravagance of imagination in the characters presented in the storyline; it has an emotional punch and is written with grace and dignity." - beverlyj

"I enjoyed this book very much... I found the writing very descriptive and was able to visualize many of the places... which added to the allure of the storylines. The book's format of alternating chapters from the perspectives of each of the three women is one of my favorites and the author did an outstanding job of telling these women's stories. The dominant theme of what it means to be a Black woman living in a white/male dominated world was extremely compelling." - melissa c.

"It is a well written book, a fast read and a book that book clubs will enjoy discussing." - Maggie
The discussion of In Every Mirror She's Black took place last fall, so the forum is now closed for new posts, but you can read through the many comments, or explore more about the book, via the links below.
