J.D. Vance, New York Times best-selling author of Hillbilly Elegy , was selected for CommunityREAD 2018. Vance will be at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts on March 22. Tickets are available by visiting marathoncenterarts.org. All tickets are $10 and feature reserved seating.

Creative Writers' Group

Creative writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry are invited to practice their writing, meet other writers, ask questions, receive feedback, and have fun. Click here for more information.
Intro to Asian Cooking Class
February 8. 4:30 p.m. 
You can eat healthy and save money by learning to prepare some Asian dishes. This session will highlight some of the different Asian cuisines and offer samples of some common staples, such as bok choy. 
Read for L.I.F.E. Tutor Training Class. February 9. 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Potential adult volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and are asked to commit to one year or more of volunteering. Click here for more information. 
Who is Caring for the Children?February 26. 6:30 p.m. The panel discussion led by Kristen Johnson, Judge of the Hancock County Juvenile Court, will outline services and programs available to assist families being cared for by grandparents or others as a result of parental drug use. No registration required.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. Read 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten. It isn’t as hard as it sounds. If you read just one book a night together, you will read 365 books in a year. At that rate, in three years you will have read over 1,000 books easily. Click here for more information.
