Dear Panther Parents,
Is it cold enough for you out there? Gotta love Texas! One day it is 70 and the next it is 30. I, for one, am excited that the groundhog didn't see his shadow! Bring on the springtime!!
Our annual Middle School Open House and Parent Registration Night will take place on February 21st. Open House will be from 5-6:30, and there will be an incoming 7th & 8th grade parent meeting from 6-6:30, and an incoming 6th grade parent meeting at 7. We hope have a great turnout this year!
A special thanks to our PTO for hosting another successful Parent Enrichment Night. Our counselors, along with two guest crisis counselors, presented informative and relevant breakout sessions. Can't wait to see what next year's sessions bring.
I hope everyone stays warm this weekend.
Happy Friday,
Darla

VALENTINE'S DAY DELIVERIES
|
Reminder - Student Delivery Policy
With Valentine's Day approaching we would like to remind
everyone our policy of not accepting student deliveries.
Pease make arrangements for student gift exchanges to take place outside of school. Students are not permitted to carry flowers, stuffed animals, balloons, etc. to class and the front office simple does not have room to store the overwhelming amount of items for them to be picked up at the end of the day.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

WINTER ILLNESS GUIDELINES TO RETURN TO SCHOOL
|
We would like to remind all parents of the importance of keeping sick children home. When a student comes to school ill, he/she can spread illness by coughing, touching his/her nose/mouth and then touching objects that other students come in contact with.
Remember that fever is not the only sign of true illness and that fever is usually a late sign of an illness, or an illness that is progressing.
If your child is out sick remember to always send in a note from the Dr. or a parent note.
MISD Health policies are in place to help ensure a healthy school where students can learn and grow. Please take a moment to review the exclusions that are listed below.
Guidelines for Returning to School after an Illness
In order to minimize the number of children that are ill, we ask you to please consider the following guidelines when making your decision to let your child attend school or return to school after an illness.
A student with any of the following symptoms must be excluded from school until such time as the student is free from symptoms.
- Temperature of 100.0 degrees or more. Student must be fever free for 24 hours, without medication, before re-entry (Texas Administrative Code)
- Vomiting (not related to a single event such as gagging, positioning, mucus, running after eating, or eating spicy food) Student must be symptom free for 24 hours, without medication before reentry
- Diarrhea, of two or more loose or watery stools; all students must be diarrhea free for 24 hours without the use of medications before re- entry (Texas Administrative Code)
- Pain and/or swelling at angle of jaw
- Undetermined rash over any part of the body accompanied by fever
- Under diagnosed scaly patches on the body or scalp
- Red, draining eyes
- Intense itching with signs and symptoms of secondary infection
- Open, draining lesions or wounds
- Jaundice
See McKinney ISD Lice guidelines
A vaccine preventable illness in question will require a physician's note for re- entry (pertussis, mumps, measles, etc.).

TWO NEW WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOL |
It's easier than ever for you to make a difference at Evans! We have two new ways for you to support our school while you shop, without any extra cost to you.
Do you shop at Kroger? Evans Middle School PTO is now enrolled with Kroger's Community Rewards program. If you already have a Kroger Rewards Card, log in to your account at www.kroger.com and then click Enroll. You can search for Evans Middle School PTO or enter our code, AF012. New users will need to create an account, which requires some basic information, a valid email address, and a Rewards Card. You must have a registered Kroger Rewards Card account to link it to our school. If you don't have a card, they a re available at the customer service desk at any Kroger. Then each time you shop at Kroger, swipe your card or use the phone number related to your card. Then PTO will take the proceeds to help our students and staff!
When you shop through Amazon Smile, Evans Middle School PTO will receive 0.5% of most purchases to fund programs, events, and grants at our school. To get started, designate Evans PTO as your charitable organization by going to https://smile.amazon.com/ch/57-1206927. Then every time you shop, start at smile.amazon.com and our school will benefit (at no cost to you!).
Please share these ways to support Evans Middle School with friends. Thanks for your support!

In middle school, words aren't just words. They can be weapons. They can be gifts. The right words can win you friends or make you enemies. They can come back to haunt you. Sometimes they can change things forever.
When cell phones are banned at Branton Middle School, Frost and his friends Deedee, Wolf, and Bench come up with a new way to communicate: leaving sticky notes for each other all around the school. It catches on, and soon all the kids in school are leaving notes-though for every kind and friendly one, there is a cutting and cruel one as well.
As the sticky-note war escalates, and the pressure to choose sides mounts, Frost soon realizes that after this year, nothing will ever be the same.

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers who make it possible for us to make our school the very best it can be! Please remember that if you are a returning volunteer, or maybe a first time MISD volunteer, that you must go online to fill out a Volunteer Application and be approved before you can serve in any capacity where you will have contact with students. Sometimes this takes a couple of weeks, so please do it as soon as possible! We need you!!!
Click HERE to go directly to the link.
Thank you so very much! We look forward to having you on our campus!
Note:
Volunteer applications may take up to two weeks to be processed.
If after two weeks you have not been contacted regarding your volunteer status, please contact MISD Human Resources at 469-302-4117. DO NOT contact staff members at schools regarding your volunteer application. Your application is a confidential matter.
Once you are approved, you will be able to volunteer in the district throughout the school year.

A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.
Please click the link below to view the Standard Response Protocol parent handout.

Due to a variety of safety concerns related to food allergies and campus safety and security,
McKinney ISD will no longer allow students to utilize food delivery services at school. This includes services such as Uber Eats, Doordash and direct restaurant delivery. However, parents/guardians will still be permitted to drop food off for their children.
This rule does not apply to deliveries organized by McKinney ISD faculty or a teacher serving as a sponsor of a student organization. We appreciate your cooperation in our efforts to create a safe and secure environment for students.
