Mysterious Adventure Awaits
|
Did you hear the one about the cow, the butterfly and the time machine?
Michael Poore, the author of a Maria’s Bookshop favorite Reincarnation Blues, takes on the challenge of writing his first novel for young readers (ages 8-12) with Two Girls, a Clock and a Crooked House.
At the heart of the story are two girls – Amy and Moo. One is dressed as a butterfly, and the other as a cow. The butterfly just can’t seem to stop talking, while the cow has lost her voice completely.
One evening, the two get caught out by an unexpected thunderstorm and driven into the woods where – according to local legend – a kid-eating witch lives. From that moment on, Poore leads the reader on a mysterious adventure decades in the making.
In the Acknowledgements, Poore says he wrote the book for his own young daughter. “I hope she likes it,” he writes. “If she doesn’t, that’s going to be awkward.”'
After finishing this book, Kate and I are both quite sure there were no awkward moments between them!
